What's the deal with Lone Pint and the consistent inconsistencies? Just the fact they maybe don't have a lab?

I'll second that the 1/3 batch is back to the normal quality I'd expect from Yellow Rose

It likely has to do with their use of whole cone hops and when their pulled, climate, weather, location, etc. As they say: the reason that they hate me, the same reason they love me

Do they even know they consistently have consistency issues? They must know!

I'm going to say this probably isn't the case. Sierra Nevada uses whole cones and don't have inconstancy issues like lone pint. As far as I'm aware, and I didn't look it up, but I believe only one farm produces Mosaic hops because they currently hold the patent and or trademark on them. Their kegs are pretty much always good and their bottles are hit or miss. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think it's oxidation introduced into their bottling process.

I second this. I have never had this beer bad on keg and I drink the hell out of it. I have had some iffy 750ml, but so far with the small bottles I have had no issues. So I have to agree with @jamescain on it being something on the bottling line.

I heard this recently from a retailer. I hope this is the case and they can get that process down to avoid the oxidation. They didn't have the issue with the 750 ml.

I thought the 750's were even more hit or miss than the 500's.

Yea, I agree with this, it got better with the 500mls... but a lot of you are maintaining that draft has always been fine. That hasn't been the case for me... I've had off-flavored draft here and there, just not as frequently as the bottles.

I do realize with draft it's harder to tell if it's a bar/restaurant/tap issue or a brewery issue. Too many potential factors (unclean draft lines), etc...

Its too bad that they haven't been consistent. Houston IPA's and TX IPA's in Hou are better than ever right now. St. Arnold Art Car, WF Brewing, Eureka's Business Time, and RA's Axis have held me over during the YR inconsistencies.

Agree - unfortunately only one of those comes in cans

(though I did go through a few Business Time Crowlers)

I hate to rain on Lone Pints parade, but I went to the brewery Saturday and have to say that the Yellow Rose was just not the same. As soon as it was poured, a darker color was evident. The aroma was the same , but the taste was much more resiny and bitter. The person with me agreed, and then during the intermission of the band that was playing, the singer was sitting at the table near us and was talking to some friends and mentioned the same thing, that "this isn't Yellow Rose. They must have plugged in the wrong keg". I hate to see the inconsistencies, but it is happening too often with too many customers to be a rare occurrence. :slight_frown:

Sad to hear but fortunately there's community Mosaic hops and grain pale Mosaic and Meta modern to fill the TX IPA need for me

Oasis has a new IPA coming out this weekend at the brewery: Cosmic Flotsam

"A 6.5% IPA with low temp kettle hopping and lupulin powder dry hopped ( Mandarina Bavaria, Denali, Mosaic)."

I hadn't checked back on this thread since the first couple days after I posted it. Disappointing to read that others have experienced consistency issues. However, having had YR in its prime, I know I'll buy it again when I'm back in Texas this summer. I'll just buy fewer to make sure they're OK before buying more. Because when it's on, it's so dang good.

(I'll also say that based on my recollection of how it tasted, oxidation during the bottling process makes sense.)

I still buy it all the time, but now I just buy a single. Been disappointed too many times now.
