I've had the misfortune of having their wines on several occasions. Considering how poor I consider them to be, I would not think of trying their beer.

I have never been much of a fan of the base Yellowtail wine brand, but the Reserve series is not bad for the price point. The one thing that you have to respect them for is that they deliver a consistent tasting product year after year given the changes in crops that occur on a yearly basis. They could be considered the InBev of wine, by this I mean they may not make a product that you like, but they deliver a consistent product year after year

What specifically did you not like about their wines? Just curious, since the ones I've tried were actually pretty good, and a good value considering the price point at which they are generally sold.

I cannot argue about the price point and the value. However, with just a little bit of effort, there are much better wines that can be found for just a little more money. I found the wines to be very simplistic in their flavor profile. The reds that I had were very immature for lack of a better word and the whites were just very light and mild.

This could be a good thing. It could turn wine drinkers onto beer. Id try them. If i can drink steel reserve and labatt ice im sure i could drink these. not saying these will be bad beers.

I see this as no different then when craft beer companies make alcohol IE Dogfish Head Vodka & Gin or Ballast Point Opah & Three Sheets series of alcohol or when craft beer companies make canned cocktail drinks like margaritas or stuff middle aged white ladies drink.

If they wanna make beer, good for them. If you do or don't wanna try it, good for you.

This is interesting from the wine perspective. In a recent issue of Wine Business Monthly, it's stated that the Australian wine industry is in big trouble - this isn't hyperbole, this is from a trade publication that has no agenda.

Specifically, Yellow Tail has done a lot to lower the image, and thus price point, of Australian wine. Combine that with a serious prolonged drought, and many Australian winegrape growers are getting out of the winegrape biz. I'm not sure if or how this ties into foraying into the pseudo-craft beer industry other than perhaps to recover some lost revenue.

I wonder if Yellow Tail will ship the beer over in a Tanker and bottle it here. They do that with their wine.

I can't wait for a Sloth Stout, or better yet, Barrel Aged Sloth. Just like the sloth, it takes time to reach its final destination.

That and the changing AUS dollar has put a dramatic halt in the AUS Wine business internationally. That's why South American Wine took their place in the market and China will be next. China's export wine industry is going to explode in the near future.

IMO Yellow Tail white are far to oaky and their reds are way to fruity.

What I'd be very interested in is how this will effect customer behavior. Will the Yellow Tale wine customer make a move to beer? (If so, great!) or will the wine customer say "hey, I'm having a party this weekend and want to buy beer for the beer drinkers, yellow tail makes acceptable stuff, I'll buy their beer too instead of BMC".

Taking the "Bitterness" out of a pale ale?! That's like taking the chocolate out of a chocolate bar! Your left with just a bar! A BAR!..... and not the good kind.

Definitely agree with you on the whites. I found their CabSauv though to be fairly decent, though again, based on price.

We toured several vineyards outside of Adelaide, South Australia including Barossa Valley last year. The limestone terrier imparts a somewhat minnerally flavor to many of the white wines produced - unapologetically. Same holds true for the breweries we visited in and around Adelaide. Still, very good independent brewers are making fine craft beer in this region, and I look forward to drinking what shows up on this shore.

From what I read, China is going to be a large net importer (not exporter). Wine imports went up fast in the 2000's, then with the phony 'corruption crackdown', wine imports went down for a few recent years, but things are again picking back up. I don't see who outside of China would buy Chinese wine, given their track record with poisonous products.

Of course they may not import it at all. They could have it contract brewed I guess.
