Hello my fellow Beer Advocates in the mountain region. I need your help. A friend is headed to Yellowstone in a week and a half (traveling from central MN, through South Dakota on 90, to Yellowstone, headed back through Montana, and North Dakota on 94). I was wondering what should he look for (taprooms, growler fills, stores, etc...), that he can't get in Minnesota? I've already HIGHLY recommended that he stop and pick a few things up at Laughing Sun in Bismarck.

Thanks for any and all help in advance.

Yes, I believe he's going to be in that area, at least one day of his trip. The only problem is it might be Tuesday.
I will let him know about your place.

Uberbrew in Billings has the best hoppy offerings in the state. What styles do you prefer?

My friend, generally goes toward lighter beers, though he also likes milk stouts. He is not a fan of IPAs/hoppy beers. Now me, if he's able to get a growler for me, I'll drink almost anything new.

If you like gose, Draughtworks has a canned blood orange gose that is one of the best beers in the state. Should be available in Bozeman I believe. Bozeman brewing gallatin pale ale is really good. If your into saisons Homestead ales has some great bottled varieties.

Or kick a little distro up through MT. I picked up some IPA. 2x4 and Hubert while in Coeur d'Alene a month ago very good all three!

I looked at his plan, and the closest to Bozeman he's going is Billings, on his way to North Dakota.
He was excited for Uberbrew in Billings, he thinks it's a good place to stop and rest on his way to North Dakota.

Thanks everyone for the replies, and I'll let you all know the results of his trip, and what I get from it. I made sure to remind him to make sure he gets stuff for himeslf, also, to bring home. He forgot to do that on his trip to the UP of Michigan last year. He's still kicking himself for that.

Carters is also worth a stop in Billings. Tap rooms in Montana are only open from noon to 8pm. He'll need to be traveling through between those hours. If not he can always pick up some cans. I would suggest he pick up some cans of Cold Smoke from Kettle House. Scotch ale that's very drinkable

He's in the Yellowstone area now. I'll forward that info to him. I can't wait to see the goods he's picked up for me on Sunday.

Taprooms that have a liquor license are allowed to stay open later though. At least this law is changing this coming October/November.

Thanks everyone for your help. My friend got back early Sunday morning. Sadly, he lost my list, so he didn't get to too many places. He did find a beer he liked, but only got one bottle. He wanted to get a 6 pack, but when he went back to the store the next day, it was sold out.
Oh, well. Thans again everyone for your help.
