The fact that you can taste a difference means there is a difference. Holy bad argument Batman.
Out of curiosity @rscot231 and @Tarheel4985 are you guys of the opinion that fermentation additions are not necessary?

Of the handful of attempts at this style I've brewed I can't say I see a mind blowing difference between fermentation hops and just simple DH. I don't doubt bio-transformation happens but it is likely restricted to certain hop compounds with certain yeast strains. It is by no means something that just happens because yeast and hops are in the pool together. That might be why I can't say I've seen an obvious difference between batches brewed with/without bio-transformation attempts.

For me I still make completely exciting and tasty NEIPA by just focusing on DH'ing and not complicating the process with adding hops during the ferment. Just me though.

Badly oxidized IPAs sometimes turn a purple-brown color.

Cool, thanks. I know mine oxidize, but just get a dark yellow-brown. Guess I'm lucky not to get to the purple stage?

We do dry hopping post fermentation now. That said we still fuck around with stuff from time to time.
