Unexpected change of plans and a free ticket led me to this event yesterday. Very pleasantly surprised. Lots of space and lines were short or nonexistent for beer. Could have used a few more Port-a-Potties but even towards the end of the day didn't have to wait too long to pee. Lots of non-beer vendors which was interesting and they had some cool stuff, plenty of samplings of bacon, pickles, hot sauces, jerky, etc. Pretty good sized crowd but no wait to enter. Also had quite a few wineries as well so it was a mixed crowd. Excellent beer selection, I tried 40 different beers. Some standouts were Starr Hill King of Hops, Liquid Hero Red Over Heels (Red IPA), Three Phase Brewing (Balt.) Peppercorn Trippel, Miscreation (Hanover PA) Frank n Stout, Sam Adams Double Black and Double Pilsner, Deschutes Black Butte XXVI and Mirror Mirror. Several new local breweries showcased their beer, all showing respectably, included Baldy Head, Gift Horse and the above mentioned Three Phase and Miscreation. Also got to try Spring House Blood Lust Rum and Big Gruesome Bourbon, neither one did much for me. Day 2 is today, if you're in the area and not glued to the tube watching football might consider checking this out, well worth it in my opinion, particularly for York.
I went two years ago, and enjoyed it. They do one in February too, so if you liked this one I'd check that out. I wanted to go this year, but I was in Philadelphia yesterday, and only just got home. Unfortunately I'm busy today as well.
So Baldy Beard (Head) only had two beers right? See originally they were listed to serving four. Then it mysteriously changed. That's what stinks about buying tickets in advance. Glad I didn't fall for it.
imbrue002: As an organizer of this event I would like to thank you for NOT "fall[ing] for it". As a lover of craft beer and up and coming breweries in the industry. I would like to thank you for not showing up. DrBier did a great job giving constructive feedback concerning the festival and he actually showed up. If your biggest gripe about a festival is that a HOMEBREWER was unable to produce 4 selections instead of 2 but still able to show up with the correct volume, than you are exactly the sort of person we don't need at the festivals or commenting on craft beer. If you want unusual selections for a beer festival. Show up. If you want 100% consistent production schedules and no surprises. Drink a Miller Light. Everyone else. Thank you for coming out. I know a few of you personally connected with me at the festival and gave some great feedback. Next beer at Max's is on me!
Hey you know, I'd just prefer that you didn't post 4 TBA's and then change it to 2. If I had already paid for 4, then of course that makes a difference..it's less beer for the same amount of money. If Baldy Beard wasnt the (imho) best brewery there then i probably wouldn't care.
[QUOTE="If Baldy Beard wasnt the (imho) best brewery there then i probably wouldn't care.[/QUOTE] Wow, guess I need to try more of their beers if they are better than Deschutes. That's a tough one to buy. Better than Troegs too?
