There are many BAs that look down their nose a "those people".
"How can you drink that macro swill?"

I just want to point out that you too are a macro drinker. (No this isn't another thread about Imbev buying Goose Island).

You drink Coke or Pepsi or Folgers coffee or Meier's Wine or Borden Milk. You drink a nationally mass produced beverage and somewhere there is a group that advocates drinking locally sourced, milk, from free ranged cows, that is raw and not pasteurized (or something). They might even have a site like this. They look down their noses at us.

I would want them to engage us in the realm of ideas and advocate for their favorite beverage while respecting that we are still in the huge majority. Not treat us like knuckle dragging morons that have no idea what we are drinking.

I think it makes sense to do the same for our friends that enjoy beer - just not the same ones that we do. They made it to step 1. We think step 2 is "drink better beer" - but 89% of America won't. So we can just advocate and see what we can do to move the needle a bit. Castigating them is foolish. Acting superior is foolish and annoying (considering they outnumber us 9 to 1).

    Food for thought. *

Food for thought, indeed. You make very good and valid points. However, I do not purchase macro anything. And believe me, it can be a pain in the ass.

Yes there are people that look down their nose. Yes some of them choose Walmart over their local True Value. Other may prefer that Chase bank over their local branch. Who cares? Drink what you like. Period. If made by ****** in Stalin's brew system and its aweosme I'd drink it all day every day.

Hey, we're free to pick and choose ideals that we choose to support. Clearly it is hard to eliminate all corporatism from our life. But when it comes to something that I am passionate about, beer, I definitely do choose to remove corporate swill from my consumption habits. Sure I consume some Kraft products, some Kellogg's products and some Coke products. But at least I can feel good about the fact that my beer drinking habits are exclusive to small, craft producers.

I was aware this would be an eventual reply (didn't think it would be the first). I really respect someone with that level of dedication. Drinking one for you.

More than I see snobbery, I see people calling us out for our supposed snobbery. Who is the audience for this?

I don't know who's more annoying: the snobs or the anti-snobs.

Very few of us can afford the best of everything. You draw the line where appropriate.

Hmm. Guess it might be so for some. I, however, just happen to be one of those who only drinks organic milk from free range cows, I don't drink ANY carbonated beverages other than beer (or any sports drinks/energy drinks for that matter), and the only coffee I ever drink I generally prepare myself from beans that were roasted here in town.

I'm sure there is some aspect of life in which I do "buy macro," but when it comes to food and drink, I try fervently to avoid crap.

I don't look down at anybody for drinking macros or whatever. I choose not to drink it because it just doesn't taste that good. If you like it go for it.

We should (and already have) get a nice range of both in here. Set up a poll?

Every beer has a time and place, and on a very rare occasion, for me, that is a macro brew. To each their own.

I have only bought macro toilet cleaner up until this point in my life. When an artisanal alternative becomes readily available, I will be drain (not toilet) pouring my Lysol.

I never feel or act superior to someone drinking and enjoying macro beer. Hell, they get a 12 pack for what I pay for some single bombers. If everybody worried less about what other people enjoy and just tried to quietly be the best version of themselves, the world would probably be a brighter place. That would leave a lot of blogs pretty empty though...

I'm not necessarily against the idea of macro in general. I just don't like to drink macro beers. I really don't care which kind of milk I buy. I'll drink Coke all day long. I have three Chase accounts. I do prefer craft beer, and personally despise macro beers. Mostly for the taste and for being unoriginal, not much else. It would be way too intense to be anti macro everything.

If Tropicana's grapefruit juice tasted as crap in fruit juice as Anheuser-Busch's Bud Light tastes in beer, believe me I wouldn't drink it. That, my friend, is the fatal flaw in your argument. I don't care if something is 'big corporate' so long as I feel I'm getting quality. I don't feel that way with adjunct macro brews.
