I was wondering if there were any younger BA members from the Philadelphia/Main Line area who are interested in starting up a tasting group or just going to local craft beer bars and breweries. I am 22 and have found it hard to convince many of my friends to join the craft beer revolution. Does anyone else have that problem? There is no age range in my mind for what constitutes a "younger BA member" but it be great to meet up with others my age who are passionate about craft beer.

Are young South Jersey BA's excluded from this? Haha

Not at all. I honestly didn't even consider South Jersey, which is odd considering that is where I buy my beer.

Is 34 too old? I'm down in southern Chester county but I'd be up for getting some tastings together.

Just meet up with any BA's. You're 22, its not like this is NAMBLA.

Davey101 is right, there is no age limit.

Often times older BA's have a lot better cellar than us youngin's do.

I'd definitely say the older BAs can be more generous than us young folk. Not a stead-fast rule, but a trend I've noticed.

That said, I'm a young BA and would be up for meeting for a beer or bottleshare in the city.

I'm like an hour north, but might end up in Philly when I finally land a job and I'd be down for this.

Not to be critical of your comment, but it's a lot easier for me to be generous today, given my current income, then it was at age 28, when I was making around $5 an hour at the local Savings and Loan in Santa Cruz.

Most of the younger BA's I've encoutered have been every bit as generous as the older ones, given their often more limited means. IMHO, a generous spirit is one of the more typical personality traits I've found with most BA's, regardless of their age.

I won't disagree with you, because I think we're making subtly different points. One can have a generous spirit, but be less generous, for exactly the reasons you explained in your first paragraph (lesser means).

Regardless, of the dozen or so BAs I've met/drank with, each has been exceedingly nice and a pleasure to spend time/share beer with.

Every BA I've met in person is a dick. They always kick me in the shins and steal my beer, every time. Never fails.

That being said, I live in South Jersey, and resent not being invited.

I tried setting up a South Jersey tasting group some time ago, before the site crash of 02/12 (back in the good ol' days) and it proved to be very difficult to manage/organize. I got contact info for about 25-30 BAs, and of the 2 tastings I hosted, 1 showed up to the first, none to the second, ended up cancelling the second the day before because of availability issues.

I'd be happy to get contact info over to whoever wants to organize, and can host in a few months, once Baby Hill chills the fuck out.

I get the feeling that pretty much everybody is off in their guesses for when he's coming, nearest date is next Tuesday, but I think he'll be here before the end of this weekend...

Bensalem here, although I'm kind of an old head at 40; but I do have some tastey brews I'd love to share.

FWIW, I know the Hulmeville Inn hosts a home brewers club once a month, maybe they or somewhere else would let us chill on an off night.
