I'm sorry, but that is just craziness?! glasses already sitting on the bar and tables??? Do you really "think" this is how it is done? I would down 6 glasses, just walking by, as I went to my seat. They walk through the line selling tickets to the people lined up, that is the reason for cash.

correct. they have most of them already poured (the younger - not the elder), but they hand them to you after you sit down, after you hand them the ticket you purchased in line with the cash.
but, remember, he was there last year

Monks has a half keg of younger and it will be $10 for a 6 oz pour. That keg will go a long way (2 hours?). All proceeds to charity. They are also raffling off some rare beers (can you say Westy 12). Should be an epic event.

Wow! Don't know why someone would lie about going. I'm not going to think more or less of anyone that has attended in the past. It's about the love of craft beer, please don't trash it and make it a competition!

While I wasn't there last year, I was there the year before when I believe Matt first started the tickets in line idea. When you got inside, Matt already had a good number of snifters of younger poured, and you received a snifter in exchange for your ticket (as Lauren mentioned). He didn't completely pour out the keg, but by the same token, I think he tried to make sure that there was an adequate number of snifters poured so that those with tickets could exchange them immediately upon sitting down at a table or at the bar (the snifters of younger weren't just sitting out on tables in the dining area, at least not that I can recall - that would obviously just be asking for trouble).

For beers as popular as younger (I saw Matt do the same thing for a KBS and Hill Farmstead event), I think pouring snifters in advance is a smart idea. There's enough demand that the beers don't sit out for any length of time, and it just makes it a lot easier on the staff to fill orders more quickly. Matt has been doing this for a while now, and my impression is that he has this down pretty much to a science.

Note to self: Never invite fjl77 to any events where I might have beer sitting unattended.

Had 2 at TND. Nothing like having PtY at the bar closest to your house. Really enjoyed!

Teresa's was surprisingly un-crowded when I walked in at 3:30 or so. Was able to even get a seat at the bar after only standing around for a minute or two. Glad I checked their website before leaving from work today.

Annoyed though that I told my friend around 4 that he probably wouldn't make it if he showed up at 5.

So I'm leaning toward going to Monk's on Monday (I'll be in the Philly area this Saturday to next Saturday). Since they have a half keg this year and thus will have over 300 pours (at six ounces each), should it be safe to show up between 10:30 and 11:00? I've never been to Monk's--what will the atmosphere be like for an event like this?

the only reason it lasted as long as it did is because they had a quarter keg of it, instead of a sixtel. would've been kicked by the time i got there at 5pm if it had been the latter. instead, though, i got 2 pours =D
    and an '04 LP Kriek.

considering they got a half keg, i think you'll be golden. all the tappings last year were, if i'm not mistaken, sixtels. with only about 60x 10oz pours in them.
if you're a gambling man, i would say it's a better idea to show up AFTER 11:30 after the initial crowd that decides it's probably a better idea to line up for the event beforehand has cleared out. i'm thinking with a half keg, it will last throughout the day. but i could be mistaken.

Just for the record, I was at Teresa's tonight too. Don't let Lauren tell you otherwise. :stuck_out_tongue: By the way Lauren, I tried to buy you a Younger, but by the time I did, they were out. I also told them to buy you an Elder on me, and I'm not sure whether they did or not. Either way, hope you enjoyed yourself.

By the time I got to my seat just after the service station, there was both a Younger and an Elder on my place mat. I grabbed both and walked around to the other side of the bar. I don't know why I would lie about being at a beer event, or any detail of it. This is beyond silly.
