Agree 100%. I really don't care who brews my beer. I wan't the tastiest IPA, stout, saison, pilsner, etc. I can buy (for as reasonable a price as possible). Most of the time, this isn't from a small or local brewer.

Flavor, variety, and the community is a big part of that too. I've met some awesome people through craft beer.

The articles lost me at the repeated use of "millenials". Just sounded out of touch and overly laden with market speak. I drink the beer for the taste and variety (sure as hell isn't the price)

Taste of course, but also the search for new stuff. I'm sure everyone would agree that it is great when you stumble/find that beer that makes you say, "damn, that is a tasty brew!".

Me? Personally, I tend to overindulge in taste with food and whiskey, so beer would be no different.

Now for my boring summation of the article

As for the article hammering home the whole "millennial" point, I think they failed to mention (unless I missed it completely) that not only the millennial demographic, but most any generation younger than say, 60's has allowed themselves the opportunity to enjoy indulgence now more than ever. I think back to my father and his friends. Bitter union types that enjoyed complaining about job, money, sports or each other more than being happy. And even though there certainly are folks now that resign themselves to being bitter (and not in a good hoppy way), our country as a whole has become caught up in more of a creature comfort mentality through media, technology and food - why would beverages be any different? Not just beer either. Look at all the flavored vodkas available now than even 5 years ago. Same with flavor infused whiskeys and rum. We as a people have simply become more discerning as consumers when it comes to enjoying life.

A step further in my (what is starting to become) nonsensical break down of this is that people today either want to feel good about themselves through their consumer habits as well as their actions or at least give an outward appearance of themselves that says something about them. Holding a local IPA in their hand as opposed to a Bud Light says something about the drinker (in their eyse at least) the same way they believe driving a hybrid or shopping at a farmer's market would. We have entered an age where we see a social appraisal of people's lifestyle that now lends itself to consumer behaviour far more than ever before.

Than again, I'm no sociologist, so I may be way off as well.

90% for the flavor, 10% for the variety/drink local/disdain for BMC/etc. 100% because it's just FUN! There's an enormous and ever-changing world of craft beer out there to explore.

I'm a few years too old to be a Millenial. But I'm proud of this (our?) generation. We value taste and quality over price and convenience.

I can't think of the last time I had a Bud Light at Applebees. But just last week I had a local brew at a solid locally owned and operated restaurant.

It's OK with me if some treat it as a cause, although the continual recruiting speeches get a bit tiring.

Taste great . More Filling.
I like the option to change it up and to have the perfect tasty beer at the perfect time of the year, day, occasion. With Macro there is no change, same thing over and over and over . plus the fact that with my palate more mature, when i drink a Macro beer all i taste is corn and it makes my teeth and mouth hurt from how sweet it is :slight_frown:

I drink craft because it's a never ending quest to find a beer better than the best beer I've ever had.
