If you were forced to limit yourself to one abv area for all of the beer for the rest of your life, what would it be? I would hover around 7% to 8% myself, as that seems to be the perfect abv limit for IPAs, as well as the perfect entrance point for imperial stouts. It's low enough to have a few without getting wasted, yet high enough to have a few and get a buzz. Obviously, there's many, many exceptions in both directions, but around 7% sounds perfect to me.

Difficult. I think 5-7 for me, because most sessionable Dunkles,Kellerbiers and Weizens I love clock in slightly above 5%, while for the colder month, 6-7% Bocks, Dubbels and the like are still strong enough to warm me from inside.

Mmm...yes. Ayinger Celebrator is my favorite German beer I've had thus far. Although that's 7.6% if I remember correctly.

For me it's the 5-7 percent range. So many of my favorite beer styles hover right in that sweet spot - German lagers, English ales, some Belgian styles (wit, farmhouse, saisons, especially Dupont, one of my all time favs, is right there), and more old school American pale ales. Plus, if we're speaking to style, a good number of porters and stouts. All beers I can have multiple pints of and mellow out, kick back, without being completely wrecked. Also, most of these work really well with food.

Yeah, I would have gone with 5 to 8 % if it was available- just a smidge more for IPAs and stouts too. Since it's not I went lower rather than higher. 5 to 7 % for me.

I guess that 75% of the beer i drink is in the 5/7 range. It may be somewhat higher in the Winter.

My ABV sweet spot has to be 6.7%. Some of my favorite beers register in that realm. Just echoing what @nick0417 said, that ABV has some "heft" but not enough to put you in a coma after two or four.

i guess it also depends on how many beers one likes to consume , and that will dictate your sweet spot.

There are many awesome german Bocks under or at 7% abv. My favorites would include: Büchenbacher Beck'n Bockbier (6.9 %) and Ott Bockbier (6.8). Off course, several are sightly over 7%, but the selection, if aviable, would still be sufficient for me.

I only drink Imperial IPAs above 10%. They must be at least 10.1%. No barrel aging or additives of any kind.

Depends on the style, there's no way to define an Abv sweet spot. I love English Milds that are sub 4, and I love big beers like Bcbs at 15. A good many of the Pils I like are under 5, most IPAs are 7-8.

I went with 7% - 9% for very similar reasons that the OP outlined. Also, LOL @ the vote for 20% plus - respect.

Ten FIDY. :stuck_out_tongue: I am in the 9%-12% camp. For me, it's the perfect range for stouts and IIPAs. Higher AVB stuff (which I also enjoy) tends to get rather expensive.

I like to hang in the Imperial Stout range.. 10% - 13%. I just feel like beers with that level of alcohol can produce much stronger flavors.

Cast my vote based on my favorite style, imperial stouts, between 12-15%. However for (D)IPA's I would say more in the 6-8% range.

7-ish, could have gone 5-7 because of my love for Hefe's, Stouts and Porters, but I went 7-9 due to IIPAs and Tripels
