7% to 9% would do for me.
    Bell's Two Hearted 7%
    Avery Raja 8%
    Surly Abrasive 9%

I went with the 5 - 7% range since it is pretty encompassing, although topping that at 8% would be a bit more inclusive. But it's another "it depends" situation - I realize you are saying it is a forced choice - but sometimes lower ABV is just fine, and I'll sit there and sip on a high ABV for an evening when the mood strikes.

Hard to say I usually like 4.5-5, but Rochefort 8 is my fav and stacks at 9.2

This week I have enjoyed an All Day IPA and a Hi-Res IPA. Also a Samuel Smith Chocolate Stout and a Ten Fidy. I'm confused.

5-7%, I don't like to drink anything much above 5% when I'm drinking outside in warm weather.

Don't always have a lot of time to polish off more than one or two beers in a sitting and it seems most of my favorites fall into a 7.5-13% range so went with the 9%-12% bracket on this.

for me i would narrow it down further to really 6.5-7.5%..you'll get your very solid pale ales and ipa's plus you'll land some good porters and stouts at the higher end. and if you're reasonable and have 4 beers over a 2-2.5 hours you shouldn't end up in jail either.

7% is perfect for me. IPA's, stouts, dubbels all hit in this range. Too much either way is usually trouble.

Well, the law won't let me have but one wife at a time but there's nothing on the books that says I can't enjoy a wide range of beers.

To the question though I don't think in terms of abv when choosing from what's available. So happens I like Belgians, doppelbocks, that sort of thing, so my average would be between say, 5.6 to 9.

6-8% is my ideal range but I choose 5-7% as the average. I consider 6-7% beers sessionable.

4% - 15%. Casual drinking would be 4% - 6.5%. But, the bigger beers have their place, too. Basically, I am rejecting the premise of the thread!

8.5% seems like the perfect abv to keep up with complexity without being too hot

8%-12% for me. Good range for imperial beers (IPA, porter, doubles ). Most high end stouts fall into this range as well. I do like beers higher than 12% (bruery beers) very much. But when it gets higher than 12% I tend to get a little too tipsy.

I voted 5-7% because it's easy drinking, but really I don't want to limit myself to any abv. I like beer from all different ranges.

5-7%. I do wish this was 4-7%, however, as that would add some sub 5% Pilsners and other tasty lagers.
