Your beer predictions for 2014

I think we'll begin to see a move away from the giant DIPAs with high abv and more hopped up APAs instead. I also predict that the prices for these APA's will be the same as, or higher, than those huge DIPA's.

 

Toppling Goliath stouts will be traded for souls in 2014.

 

in 2014 I will win a $354million dollar lottery and open a brew pub for gypsy brewers only. None of our beer will be available...anywhere...except in the pub. When you fill growlers, they must be consumed before leaving the premises. Our flagship is an American Wild Ale infused with Sour Patch Kids.

more craft breweries will be bought by other craft breweries.
more Berliner Weiss will come out as the 2014 fad.
hops will be imported from South America
someone will launch a tomato based IPA, like a V8 DIPA.

I predict someone will make a hop boil, then add a bit to a bottle of pure hop extract, thinning it out enough to carbonate with a SodaStream and call it "Hopsmack You So Hard In The Mouth That Your Mother's Morning Coffee Will Taste Bitter GoogolplexIPA."

 

Founders will not brew CBS.

 

Predictions:

2014 beer scene - more of the same, but more of it.

Hoppy beers, barrel aging, high alcohol, session beers, resurrected styles, sour beers, BMC purchases of craft breweries, lawsuits, hipster adoption, mainstream penetration, etc...

One fearless prediction: Boston Beer Company will start engaging in the same sort of business practices as BMC, but on a smaller and less aggressive scale.

 

More mergers and collaborations similar to Lawson's/Otter Creek Double Dose. Small time brewers using the scale of others to make high quality products for the masses.

 

I will get my hands on some BCBS, Founder and Cigar City beers. We don't get distro for the latter two in OK, but I'm willing to harass as many of my friends from other states to make sure I can get some. I would like to see more beers with coffee or espresso this year, but I'll just have to wait and see.

2013 was a pretty great year, and we alrady have Odell launching in like 6-10 weeks.

 

Someone will trade to me some Heady Topper. Upon consumption I will immediately move to Vermont, stop shaving and build a log cabin using only me hands and teeth.

 

More double (multiple) barrel aging.

My crystal ball tells me;

1) Despite rebuilding for the 5th consecutive year, the Three Floyds Brewery will once again burn down.

2) To gain additional tax revenue, the United States legislates a 4-Tier System.

3) In a website upgrade snafu, the BA database accidentally ranks Rogue Voodoo Maple Bacon #1 on their all-time list. Trade forums posts reach epic levels.

 

Not necessarily a prediction, but more of a dream, that some Will Hunting genius type figures out how to have smooth sailing bottle releases without chasing trucks, early morning lineups, and websites that don't crash.
