Agreed! Obviously there are regional pricing differences, but i'm hard pressed to find Sculpin or Victory at Sea for more than 12.99/13.99 a sixer near me. Both (IMO) are a great value for the awesomeness that they are.

Best Value: Beer you like that is local and probably not too small a company.
Worst Value: Beer you like that isn't local, probably only in bombers, and hard to find

    The end.

Well, ok, great! Thanks so much for reading my posts clearly and offering such thoughtful responses!

Seriously, it just seems like you and I have different buying and drinking preferences. I'm glad that you don't find them overvalued for you. That's the whole point of the thread - we all have different thresholds based on our own personal drinking practices. And as I said, pricing in NYC is a very different ballgame than in the midwest.

I hope you enjoy whatever you decide is the right beer for you!

These are my picks. The Bruery is the only brewery who I flat out refuse to drink. There are other breweries who I won't purchase from but I'll still try their beers. I won't even try Bruery beers on principle. I've never seen a bomber for less than $25 in PA.

I would also put Evil Twin on my worst value list

You do realize that a $5 bomber equates to a $16 six-pack. Every teacher that taught you math should be fired.

A 22oz is a lot less volume than a 6-pack (72oz). When you buy in bulk, you get a price break. A $5 bomber is very reasonable; and in the market it is tough to beat.

The teacher than taught you economics should be fired :stuck_out_tongue:

That's not wholly their fault. Mischief, Saison De Rue, Hottenroth, etc all sell for WAY less than that at the source. The prices around here are insanely jacked up.

Hottenroth is $10 from The Bruery and I've seen it around here for $25. That's not their fault, that's price gouging. I've seen White Oak for $35 here and I think it's about $15 from them.

If you wanna talk about the price of their barrel aged stuff, that's a different story.

Best: Southern Tier has been the best bang for your buck this year with their 6 pack offerings, and the amount of different styles at that price. 2xone, 2xipa, 2xstout, 2xpress, 2xmas, 2xrye all these are solid ( not amazing ) beers with nice abv for under $11.99 a six pack.
And another vote to Lagunitas, $5 bomber, and 6 packs of nighttime, Undercover, Sucks, are all a bargain. When I lived in LA last year i got a 12 pack of Lagunitas IPA for $12.99!

Worst: I'll switch it up and go with Terrapin and Green Flash. Many Terrapin 4 packs are $12.99 + for not so great beer. I loved GF Road Warrior, possibly most citrusy rye I've ever tasted, but hard to justify $13.99 4 pack, as well as all their other beers being in this price range and only 4 packs.

Basically, if you can get away with selling 6 packs with abvs over 8% and under $12, you have my attention.
On the other hand, other breweries are selling 4 packs for over $12, you've turned me off.

You just helped my point though. Their rock-bottom cheapest beer still sells for $120/case.

Yeah I'm not saying that they're not over priced... They definitely are. Just saying it doesn't make much sense to punish them because Pittsburgh has sky-high beer prices. $35 for a bottle that's under $15 at the source is just robbery.

I agree with Lagunitas and locally I think Fremont is also great from a value perspective on shelf beers.

From a worst value perspective, I don't think Bruery or Perennial have that bad of a proposition. Bigger bottles, bigger prices - yes, but in most cases uniqueness and quality to match. If sizes and prices are it, then Cascade should be in there as well.

Maine is probably a better example of poor value as there are plenty of comparable or better products out there selling at half the price.

Best = Sierra Nevada. It's not close, IMHO. Lagunitas is 2nd.

Worst = Miller. The price I pay to watch Mrs. O drink beer-flavored water without the ability to comment without becoming a eunuch is incalculable.

Robbery both ways. But I've seen them elsewhere where they weren't Pittsburgh high but still extremely high, Indiana for example.

    Best: Sierra Nevada and Founders

Worst: I think Prairie. If I can get a 4pk of Founders stouts or SN Bigfoot for the cost of a 12oz bottle of Bomb! or variant, I'm going for the bigger quantity of really high quality beer.
