Bells Hopslam. Don't know if it's a whale, but at 20 bucks a six I expected better. Good beer. Not great IMO.

Deschutes Abyss. A very good beer, but the more easily available Dogfish 120 is basically the same beer.
I could say the same about Samuel Adams Utopias.

I have a gravitational pull to weird beers. I can't help myself and I never learn. Key Lime Pie, Peanut butter, bull testicles ( I never landed that one). I go after them and they so rarely rise to the level of mediocrity. Keeps me in the hunt, though.

Not seeing many whales on this thread (Lagunitas Sucks and Rogue?), but based on the level of beers other people are saying...

Dark Lord. Wouldn't buy it for $10 if it was sitting on a shelf.

Cantillon Blåbær Lambik was the biggest disappointment. KBS and Sucaba were also not that great as I expected.

I remember my friends and I psyching ourselves up for Christmas when we were kids, like the presents were going to be a LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE. By the time all the wrapping was off I usually had this "ahem" feeling. Days or weeks later I realized the best thing about that particular Christmas was that there was nothing to complain about. You got what you asked for. You didn't get just underwear.

I totally forgot this lesson when I started chasing beer whales. Every time I got one (and subsequent copies to compare) I was surprised that there was no epiphany, no "where have you been my whole life?'. Overtime I've realized no beer will change my life, but some have no flaws whatsoever and I am very glad I finally got to try them.

Yeah Idk what classifies as a "whale" but I also found Lagunitas to be underwhelming, same for Kona and Brooklyn. They're not bad, but I can get better beer for the same price or cheaper. Same thing goes for Piraat and La Trappe.

Also, due to what the posters above me said I like to go in as "ignorant" as possible. I randomly picked a few bottles yesterday for party and they just so happened to hit the sweet spot in terms of taste.

Bomb, Lost on me, kinda flat , no pepper, hard to find a proper adjective that's positive, kinda bland. Mexican Cake is a helluva lot better, more of everything I heard bomb was, not worth $8 a bottle, not even close.

Fou Foune. I had a 2013 bottle on New Year's Eve and got absolutely zero apricot flavor. I blame the vintage though, definitely looking forward to trying a different one in the future.
