Okay, concede the point. Haven't had Dave. Original Black Tuesday is the second best stout I have tried, but I defer to your group's opinion about the others, obviously disproves my point, though 99.9% was put in as pointed exaggeration, not an attempt to be exactly statistically accurate.

VSB was amazing. After having that atrial was hard to enjoy. I actually drank both my VSB before I knew the hype surrounding it. I was glad to enjoy my whales before I actually knew they were whales.

Parabola. Tried a 2012 on tap late last year and just didn't enjoy it; way too boozy and unbalanced. It might've been the way the keg was aged but I grabbed a bottle this year so we'll see.

As stated earlier KBS. For years I had been searching for it. Low and behold my buddy brought one to a group tasting and all 4 of us preferred both BCBS and Uncle Jacob's to it in a side by side comparison. Uncle Jacob's was actually head and shoulders better than it. Thicker, more nuanced and even better balanced.

Now that I think of it, I like the regular breakfast stout over the Kentucky version.

Ahh yes, participation trophies....you're right, every beer that every person wants to try (Hopslam, heady, pliney, "anything from rogue") should definitely be given the title of whale...my mistake, carry on then.

"Whale" is one of the dumbest labels in beer geekery, regardless how it is used or defined.

I don't disagree with you at all; but if it's going to be used as a term, it should carry a meaning. Not just any seasonal or regional release.

I'm glad that I'm not alone. I hunted this thing down after missing constantly. Finally had it on tap a month ago and I was not blown away. I expected perfection and I was left a bit disappointed. :/

To the first guy who said Pliny. Shame on you. Was never a whale of mine but had it on tap at the source and it blew my mind as to what west coast ipa could do for me. And I've traded to get my fix since. My whale that didn't impress was KBS. Just so many better options out there. Haven't found a comparable ipa to Pliny besides HT, although distinctly east coast. But hey, so many variances push the envelope for us consumers. We can only be thankful. Thank God I grew up at the right time for beer. Cheers!!

Maybe ppl who were Disappointed with Pliny and HT were not ipa aficionados. Maybe that's the problem, just like I'm not an aficionado of imperial stouts (although enjoy them) with KBS... I do know my IPAs. Just my .02

I was expecting something that wasn't almost totally devoid of flavor. That seems like a fair expectation.

I'm glad you took your time to look at my ratings. Makes my heart warm that you disagree so much with me not liking a beer you wanted to prove me wrong.

Since I have to explain myself while you are busy googling my child's name, here is why.

I haven't had a 90 minute since I went to Hilton Head 2 years ago and ate at a restaurant called The Boathouse (I think or something of that sort.). I remember drinking 3 of them with dinner and having a really good time. It was fresh, on draft. It was one of the few craft beers they had on draft, I remember. Also, that was when I barely even tolerated IPAs or DIPA's and that was one of my first I actually consumed more than a few ounces of.

So, I'm sorry sir while I was casually rating beers, and scrolling through the top 250 and I saw that one listed, I was like "hey...I've had that and I liked it!" Does my profile or ratings tell you that part?

Would it taste different to me now? Probably. I've had several hundred different beers since then. Does your palate change? Mine did. I hope that's ok with you.

Unfortunately KBS and Parabola were big let downs for me. On the other hand Peche Mortal blew me away.

This for me. Not an epic whale but it's way harder to get than it should be. Just my opinion though, glad many others love it.

I think a whale is a beer one seeks to acquire but has much difficulty. I literally could get the rarest beers on the planet, I simply have to spend tons of money. Some of which thru private sellers are in the thousands. Its all perspective. Pliny, Heady, Lawsons etc are all beers that are a pain in the neck to get.
