Really liked Modern Times Critical Band. Being readily available and inexpensive factors into it for me.

 

Handjee and Chemtrail mix

both absolutely blew me away! Didn't know a beer can be that syrupy!?

 

Tough to narrow it down to 1. But it would either be Carpe Diem or Abraxas. Both pure bottled magic.

On the Hoppier side:
Other Half's DDH Mylar Bags & Kane Brewing's Party Wave

 

Breakside showed up in nyc and it is worthy.. What rough beast stunned me

 

BCBS (my first time trying it, the hype was justified)
CBS on tap (haven't opened my bottle yet)
Black Note Stout was also great

 

Wow my area, Mid Hudson Valley, came into its own this year and it would be impossible to name favorite beer of the year due to an incredible succession of amazing brews. So I am gonna go with most surprisingly great beers:

Suarez Leifer

 

I tried a lot of new beers this year, so in no particular order, these were the most memorable:

BCBS
Cascade Brewing - Kentucky Peach
Tree House Brewing - Green (I also tried Julius, In Perpetuity, Alter Ego and Doppelganger, but Green was the best by far)
Founder's - KBS
Oskar Blues -Death By Coconut
Sloop Brewing - DDH Juice Bomb

Haven't opened my CBS yet, but I might open that on New Year's and kick 2018 off right!

 

Epic Brewing Company - Big Bad Baptista. Had this on Thanksgiving day and it was the perfect dessert beer.

 

A few new favorites:
DFH Sea quench was an outstanding summer beer!
Straub's Groundhog Alt beer really came on nicely in the spring
Founders CBS was everything a barrel aged imperial stout should be

Best new to me beer (that I should have tried years ago): 120 Minute

Best local new for 2017 was 450 North's "The Great Eclipse", drank while watching the solar eclipse this year.

 

I have enjoyed all the barrel aged stouts I have tried this year as well as more than one NEIPA I bought in CANs. I had one in buffalo trace barrel that i thought was outstanding. i am thinking sweetwater but I can't remember the name. I also really enjoyed to the point of digging up an old thread the oak aged lager form boulevard.

 

Tough call between Trillium Headroom and Aslin West Chester.

The one that stood out the most in that list is Tete. I split a bottle with 2 friends. Truly amazing.
I would say its been a good year.
