Best: Mad Fox in NoVA. The food is leaps and bounds above what you would see on a "brewpub" menu.

Worst: DFH in NoVA. Same beer I can buy in bottles and the food was despicable.

Pretty much my list but I'd take HotD out and add Portsmouth Brewing, Victory, & Marshall Wharf/3 Tides...

I'll say Great Lakes Brewing as well as many times as I've been there I've yet to spend a serious amount of time in that downstairs pub. Damn damn damn if that old cellar pub doesn't look like my dream home pub set up. Next time I'm there I'm dragging whoever's w/me down into that pirate ship. Can't wait to visit Stone @ the end of May when I'm vacationing in San Diego.

I've only been there once, but it made a lasting impression. Great atmosphere (but that always seems to be a running theme with brewpubs!).

Southern Sun (or Mountain Sun) in Boulder. I've been to many brew pubs, but this is my favorite (and its conveniently located a few miles from my house). Extensive selection of their own standard brews which typically include multiple IPAs and stouts, plus a bunch of more unique offerings that rotate. Growlers are a pretty good deal and come in 64 oz mason jars, so you can use them for other purposes besides just transporting beer. Inexpensive food that tastes great, with some of the best fries I've ever had. February is stout month where they have a ton of stouts on tap made by them, homebrewers and other local breweries. They have managed to stay relevant over the years in a part of the country that has tons of good breweries. Only down side is its usually pretty packed.

    Some of my favs:

Calistoga Inn, Calistoga, CA (20 years ago)
Dock Street Brewpub, Philadelphia, PA (18 years ago)
New England Brewing, South Norwalk, CT (15 + years ago)

seems I don't go to a lot of BP's anymore, that needs to change.

I guess I need to get out more... the few brewpubs I have been to have been a bit of a disappointment. Admittedly, I have only been to a few, and among those were some of the national chains, but I haven't found any that really blew my socks off...

Cigar City recently opened its own brewpub in Tampa. Food is just as good as the brew, and paired phenomenally. I may miss this more than the beach when I move to Denver next month, but to be fair, I hear they have a decent beer scene out there...just OK

In the DC area: The Dogfish Head Ale Houses are great, as is the Mad Fox.

Maryland: The Brewer's Art and the Pratt Street Alehouse in Baltimore are both fantastic.

In Arizona: I really, really like Four Peaks in Phoenix, the Beaver Street Brewery and Whistlestop Cafe in Flagstaff (damn near lived there my last two years of college) and the Oak Creek Brewery and Grill in Sedona.

In San Diego: Stone Brewing Company. 'nuff said.

But it's not a brewpub, and hasn't brewed beer since, at least, Repeal (and prior to that, the stories of them brewing onsite aren't well documented).
