For some terrible reason it's snowing here in Seattle in the middle of March so I decided that this evening called for a stout. So as I write this I'm sipping a great divide oak aged yeti, and it got me thinking....There are so many damn imperial stouts out there, from all across the country. Just thought I'd ask what some of everyones favorites are. Honestly for me oak aged yeti is my favorite, I know it's not hard to find or anything, and I haven't tried all of the very hard to get imperial stouts, but oak aged yeti is readily available when it's in season, but every time I have this beer it is exactly what I'm looking for in an imperial stout. People may be angry at me for this, but if I had to pick between the abyss and oak aged yeti I would pick yeti, don't get me wrong, the abyss is amazing, but I like yeti cause it's easier to drink......anyways.....I'm babbling.....your thoughts?

RIS is by and large my favorite style of beer, so I will gladly contribute to this post:slight_smile: It is going to sound cliche, since I am from MN, but for me it is Surly Darkness. Perfect balance of flavors and I really like how it ages well. But I have to say that 2010 Abyss and Espresso Yeti FRESH are in my top RIS list too! Also just had Big Hugs from Half Acre- WOW! Cheers and thanks for a great post- looking forward to more responses.

It's by far my favorite style as well. I love how every RIS I have always has it's own unique characteristic, I also love ipa's and double ipa's but I feel like a lot of them are so similar, but it seems like every RIS I have is different than the last. Perfect for cold weather!!!

Oak Aged Yeti is great, never tried Abyss, but I would have to throw Old Raspy in the mix…

I actually haven't tried this, but I've got a stone IRS belgo anise that I've been sitting on for a few months....it's begging to be opened but I think I'm going to keep it until next year.

three year old mephistopheles and bourbon county stout tie each other in this category. Samuel smiths is a very easy and smooth drinking imperial stout as well.

Not at the top of the "sexy" list, but I really enjoyed the Victory Dark Intrigue.

Regular: Plead the 5th by a hair over 10 others, so many good ones: Blackout, Expedition, Old Raspy...
Barrel-Aged: Bourbon County Rare, Parabola for regular yearly release
    Nitro'd: Old Rasputin
Cask'd: Dragon's Milk (only one I've had cask'd, still GREAT, prefer over the bottled version)

The Abyss gets my vote. In the past i've never had the discipline to cellar them. Solution - cellar them at my inlaws (got 3 there). Out of sight out of mind  Second place goes to speedway stout.

Old Rasputin. There may be better tasting ones out there, and limited and rare ones. But no one beats this beer for that price, so I never have any guilt drinking them.

I was lucky enough, in 2010, to have a growler fill of 2005 Stone IRS.
