I actually had two more before unknown to me triples this last weekend which I found amazing: Abbaye de St. Martin Triple and Tripel Karmeliet. Excellent beers!

Candi sugar is basically just sugar added to up the ABV of these brews. It is a modified version of table sugar that absorbs less moisture so used to keep on shelves better in breweries. Now, if it is added at all, it is just for historical concerns.

Had more than a few Dark Horse Sapient Trip Ale on tap when it was around. Really good at a decent price.

    Who resurrected this thread?!?!?!?!?
    :stuck_out_tongue:

    Anyway...

Sure... La Fin is a tasty brew, it's a good value and inexpensive. But please, try MANY of the Belgian produced ones, there are HUNDREDS and it's also why I love this style... it's hard for me to say why but...

Some are malty, some are super sweet, some have wine like character, some are like a glass of the perfect champagne...

It's such a DIVERSE style, then you throw in American versions and the fun just keeps coming.

Please everyone... try and drink more!!

I tend to like the heavier, spicier tripels: Westmalle and Chimay are probably my two favorites.

That said, I've enjoyed the American takes on the style that incorporate more hops into the style quite a bit. Flying Fish's American Trippel is readily available to me and scratches that itch just right for me.

Completely agree that it tastes nothing like a triple. And I'll commit heresy (at least in the context of this thread) and say that I don't care for La Fin du Monde in general.

I love tripels. Prob my favorite style. I'd say Westmalle & La Fin Du Monde are my favs overall. I picked up a 4-pack of Long Strange Tripel recently and have really been enjoying it as well. Boulevard really makes some great stuff.

I feel like I'm the only person on earth that doesn't really like Curieux. I think Ibe had it like 4 times and just can't really get into it. Maybe I'm a purist, but it barely seems like a Tripel to me.

Westmalle, Westmalle, and Westmalle. Oh, and Curieux is a bit of ok too.

There is a reason why after three pages, there is only one mention of this one. I thought it was poor.

The thing is everyone has an opinion, and if it works for you, that is all that matters. I am lucky enough to easily get my hands on Merry Monks, and is it is domestic, this one tops it on this side of the pond.......

Westmalle and St. Bernardus really are the benchmark. Both outstanding.

I've never tried st bernardus Tripel. Don't think ive ever seen it around here. I should try to get my hands on some sometime. Seems to get a lot of positive feedback here.

Westbrook Apple Brandy Barrel Aged Tripel is, without a doubt, my favorite Tripel of all time. God I wish I could get my hands on MOAR!
