And as @Scott17taylor mentioned, I'll sip on bourbon or single malt scotch during the winter. Not that it gets really cold in San Diego anyways...

For a lower ABV, Right Brain CEO Stout serves me well. Toasty warm coffee notes but only 5.5%.

And I can't forget Noel de Calabaza from Jolly Pumpkin. A sour ale at 9%.

I'll be drinking lots of Central Waters BB Scotch Ale this year, along with plenty of big stouts. I might pick up a couple of bottles of Avery Samael for the really cold ones. Uncle Jacobs would be great, but only brought one bottle back from Colorado with me and I don't think I'm going to have the patience to stash it until the real cold gets here.

I wish I felt winter coming, fall would be a good compromise at least. Still 90+ in Houston, sigh. Doesn't keep me from some of my favorite styles. Not all season specific (and I can't wait for some of these to hit the shelves), but these are usually what a reach for...North Coast Old Stock, Anchor OSA, Real Ale Coffee Porter, Fuller's Vintage Ale, JW Lees Harvest Ale, Saint Arnold Christmas Ale, Karbach Yule Shoot Your Eye Out, Deschutes Jubelale, Avery Old Jubilation. I can see the new Real Ale Black Quad being perfect, it has been one of my favorite new releases so far this year. Plus a good bourbon or two. My usual's on that front are Eagle Rare, anything from the Willette Family Estate series, Rowan's Creek, Evan William's Single Barrel.

It's a complication question really. Winter can be so dry that I enjoy the same thirst quenching beers I would enjoy in hot weather. But aside from that issue I will say Rochefort 10.

I always start my drinking days/nights with an IPA type beer. Sometimes it's a single, could be a double, or even a triple. So whether it's cold or hot, everything begins with an IPA. My favorite beer for a cold winter day would be a big bourbon stout style beer. Maybe it's a barrel-aged double, or imperial stout, or RIS. I enjoy the heat and gullet warmth. Give me something with an ABV over 12%. Parabola is always nice on a cold winter night...

Old Curmudgeon was my most enjoyed cold winter day beer last year. Tonight I shared a FW Stickee Monkey with a couple friends, and we all felt this beer would be amazing and perfect for a cold winter night. I can easily see how Backwoods Bastard could be perfect as well.

    a case of natty light!

but a hardy IPA or dIPA will always hit the spot. Ten Fidy or 4Beans are what i'm hoping get me through. Russian Imperial Stouts just seem right in cold weather

I love Leinenkugel's Snow Drift Porter when winter/cold weather sets in. Decent porter with a touch of vanilla that runs about $12 a case.
