I was 11...family reunion and my favorite uncle says to me "Grab me a beer out of the cooler, and get one for yourself while you are in there." It was August, and about 90 degrees with 80% humidity, so you didn't have to ask me twice. And in that cooler, cold as ice and completely taboo for an 11 year old, I grabbed myself a shiny, slick, brown glass bottle of Red Dog. Goddamn, it's almost like trudging up a suppressed memory at this point.

The first memorable beer I ever had was when I was 20 in Duseldorf, Germany at this tiny little ma and pa pizza place. They had Schneider Weisse on tap, to this day I can remember how great that beer was and couldn't wait until I turned 21 and could drink in the states. What do I follow that up with when I turned a month later? Miller High Life tall boy in a can, couldn't even finish it and that is when my quest for great American beer began

my first beer was a surly coffee bender, it defeated me, way too much for me to handle sadly.
