Your first Stout?

Dark Horizon was my first. Not impressed. KBS and Breakfast Stout soon followed.

 

Stone RIS. It was great, one of my first few Stone beers I think and it was before I reviewed beers. Had it at Frisco's Tap House.

 

Guinness in the late 60's, I couldn't drink it. I was amazed that light wouldn't pass through it. I adjusted to it with Black & Tan's in the 70's. Now it's too weak tasting for me, give me a real stout, Bell's Expedition, that's the stout that other stouts aspire to become, lol.

 

My first stout was Storm King

 

Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro. Good place to start.

 

Sam Adams Cream stout.

 

pretty sure my first was actually Alaskan Stout. Seems so long ago though.

I think the second was Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout.

 

I tried Guinness as a young "lad" when my Uncle let me have a slug every now and then. But, my first appreciation of the style was Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout.

 

I would imagine that's a very age specific thing. Probably anyone over 30 had Guiness as their first stout. Younger people, not so much.

This was also my First Stout. I remember hating it. It was so bitter. I age my Storm King now.

 

Young's Oatmeal Stout (pre-Wells merger), St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout or Samuel Smith's Oatmeal stout. I wanna say it was most likely St. Ambroise...those were the 3 go-to stouts thru the 90's, tried others as I was ravenous for the style, St. Peter's, Guinness, Mackeson's, Old Rasputin on & on & on...

 

Guinness 1978-79, it sold in 4pks. It was a treat compared to the beer landscape of the era.

 

I had my 1st Guiness in 1996 on the night of my 21st bday and things were never the same after that.

 

I'm pretty sure my first American stout was Breakfast Stout back in 2011. I had Guinness sometime before that, don't remember when.

 

Brooklyn Brewery's Black Chocolate Stout was my first stout that I ever tried.

 

I'm sure mine was Guinness too. But, i don't remember.

The first stout i remember was brooklyn black ops. It was also the first beer i liked.

If you're old, like me, there really wasn't any other "stouts" to have/try.
