My father-in-law, who sparked my interest in craft beer, gave me a Founder's Kentucky Breakfast Stout shortly after I turned 21. It's still my favorite!

    Pre-widget Guinness first. Mackeson second.

Either Guinness or Sam Smith's back in the early 1990s. Mackeson around the same time as well.

It was one of the following three stouts; St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout, Young's Oatmeal Stout or Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout...so many beers under the bridge, I know what was there at the time but the time line is awash from stout most likely.

I think anyone over 40 has probably got to admit it was either a Guinness or a Samuel Smith.

Definitely Guinness Extra Stout for me (the draught was actually pretty rare back then)- and thanks to an Irish bar owner. He just gave it to my group as a buy-back one night because we used to drink a lot of Heineken Dark. he also said something along the lines of "now you'll see what a real dark beer tastes like."

These days, I'd still take a better class of Munich Dunkel over an Extra Stout, but it was nice to be shown something a little different.

Guiness like most folks, but Berkshire RIS and Dark Truth were the real game changers.

Guinness, when I was seventeen. It was a very good beer. But now I think of my life as vintage stouts from fine old kegs.

My first stout was guiness as I am sure many will say. Then my second stout was a huge jump to trying a BCBS and then I never looked back from there.

Guinness, but that was while looking for a beer similar to Calhoun's Tuckaleechee Porter ( I was new to craft beer and only knew about light or dark beer).

Still not a stout lover but like a few lighter stouts. BB's peanut butter milk stout was the first I tried and actually really liked. I tend to stick to IPA's & sours.

There must be many liars here. Who's first stout wasn't Guinness?

I guess my first stout was guiness even though I didn't know it. I absolutely hated it at the time. Couldn't comprehend what the rod was in the middle of it lol

My first would definitely have to have been Guinness back when I drank lager only. Once I started beer reviewing and trying different beers, it would have been CUB's Sheaf Stout. A good half-way point for any wanting to make the leap to stouts.

Too right, mate. Everyone's first stout was a Guinness! Generally it was just when we were 15 , and most can't even remember it.

I really liked that one, but haven't even seen one in a while over here.

Guiness. I hated it! I was 17 or so.
Used to drink BMC lagers mostly, my palate was not ready.
