I don't remember my first sour beer, all I know is that I immediately liked it. No gateway needed for me.

Do you just not read or do you enjoy being a pedant? As I said.. "By style, they are Gueuze. If you want to consider gueuze and lambic the same style, that's fine too, but I'm pretty sure everyone knew I was referring to their fruited lambics either way and not to Faro or CR."

So again, if you want to consider gueuze and lambic to be the same style, go for it. Personally, I don't.

I'm not being a pedant, you're just being stubborn. But yeah, I agree with you.

Rodenbach GC and/or 3F OG 2012, can't quite remember which one was first but both had me at first sip.

Medora on tap was my first sour. Loved it from the first taste. My wife HATED sours, but we got a sour monkey and she liked it. Hasn't looked back since. Now I kick myself all the time for convincing her to keep trying them until she like them. The most expensive style of beer is now her favorite.

Weyerbacher Riserva...!!! One of the sourest sours - I was volunteering at the BA Night of the Funk and got to pour from the Weyerbacher table all night - it was Riserva and Sour Black - and the Riserva not only caught up with me really quickly (as a pourer you were encouraged to try the beer to know and understand what you're pouring) so I slacked off pretty quickly. I had only volunteered for that fest to get an appreciation for sours and the funk as I was pretty new to that scene. By the end of the night, I was completely spent on sours, but about a week later I was craving to try the Riserva again. So I went and bought three - that was a few years ago and I've still got a 2010 waiting for me. I'll probably make the plunge again on a 2014 bottle when the prices go down, which they're apt to do [over the next couple years as they gather shelf dust...].

Believe it or not, Cuvee Rene. I tried Cantillon Kriek & Rodenbach Grand Cru years before & hated them, then read The Brewmaster's Table & came to understand & appreciate sour beer more.

Dogfish Head Festina Peche is an all time favorite, but it's more lightly tart than sour.
