What is your ideal beer store?
    I ask because I know myself I
    go to 3 different places.

    1) For growlers
    2) For variety and good priced 4/6-packs
    3) For single 12 oz bottles or cans

Wish I had a place that had all three.

    How about you?

One with a great selection, allows you to build your own six pack and is conveniently located with competitive prices

How about a big badass beer store that buys so much beer they get EVERY special release, they have the best beers from EVERY state, and because of their huge buying power they offer great prices on EVERYTHING from singles to kegs.
    ...and open 24 hours.

    Walking distance from home
    Extensive hours
    Extensive bottle selection
    Great taplist
    No corkage fee
Good people on both sides of the bar and never too crowded
    Good prices
    Excellent events
    Open on holidays

If Beermongers were next door, that would be it. I just need to move.

A place that takes freshness seriously.

At this point, everything after that is secondary, including price (which rarely seems to vary more than a buck on sixers around here).

Really only one thing needed... it should be run by someone who truly cares about purveying good beer. Freshness, selection, etc, sort of just fall into place after that.

One that is a block from my house, treats freshness the same way a good supermarket produce manager does, is friendly, and has a good selection of beer.

I frequent one in the next state up that has all of your criteria except for prices not always being reasonable. I go because I can get beers that are not distro'd to my state so prices don't really matter so much to me.

For me, I agree, but would like to add:

-beers sorted by brewery (I prefer this to sorted by style)
-does growler fills (I live in LA, and don't see this, but would love it)

    - Dimly lit
    - Absence of staff
    - Poorly laid out aisles with unnecessary dead ends
    - Random arrangement of bottles not by style or brewery
    - Frequently rearranged
    - Easily overlooked nooks and crannies
    - Eclectic selection

Basically a place I can get lost and find something new every time I go. Having to search around makes for a better experience when beer shopping, and not knowing what you'll find keeps things exciting.

I'm with everyone on a good/fresh beer selection with new releases/seasonals and a make your own sixer option...I'd add a non-condescending staff
