    Pine.

"Tropical" makes me think of "disease".

To me, the pine is something really unique in IPAs that really fascinated my palate back when I tried my first IPA ever (it was Ruination). If I wanted nothing but tropical fruits, well there are these things called "fruit juices" that kind of already got that area covered. I don't have an equivalent beverage that can give me pine like some IPAs do... so my answer is pine.

When i first started drinking craft I absolutely loved piney as hell, almost weedy IPA's. Since I've made my rounds through some of the greats though I've found my palate leaning in a more tropical direction. The past few tropical IPA's i had just blew me away.

Tropical edges out Piney. That being said a lot of piney IPAs are a bit more balanced so seasonality does play a large part. Since the sun is shining and it's starting to warm up it's time to bring the fruit out.

I have to vote tropical but I want balance. IT needs to have quite a bit of dank pineyness to it.

I like all IPAs from all flavor profiles (onion, dank, piney, tropical, citrusy, floral etc). As long as the finish is not overly bitter and lingering a long time after the sip, that is really my only "don't like" feature from IPAs.

    Tropine-acal.

Sometimes you want the fruit; other times you want the tree; sometimes you want both at once.

Both. But, I do like the Piney IPA's from time to time. Betty IPA is very Piney. Well, it was before they changed the recipe for it.
