Yeah - Josh is the head brewer/owner as you may know. He's from my home town, we know the family pretty well, and he survived my wife's science classes in high school. I wish him nothing but success is his newest endeavor in a climate where we are starting to see breweries having business troubles.

I think breweries that can keep it small enough to sell all beer out of their own place will still do well. That is probably a topic for another thread though as what that limit really is. But, I agree that there is a point that we are heading towards for business problems. That being said, Rhode Island is still a bit underserved, especially in that south county area.

I live right in New Hampshire right on the river so mine will lean heavy Vermont for sure. But off the top of my head in no particular order.

    Foley Brothers
    Frost
    River Roost
    Trillium
    Burlington Beer Co.
    Brewmaster Jack
    Jack's Abby
    Foam
    Night Shift
    Hill Farmstead

Damn that's 10 I could go on for awhile. There is amazing beer in Maine I just don't get over there a lot as Vermont is so close for me. Need to get my hand on some Austin Street at some point as I hear it's amazing.

For those that haven't tried River Roost it's worth the trip. Especially when you factor in Big Fatty's across the street that always has a decent taplist and a crowler pit/beer store.

Caveat: I'm not as well traveled as I was a few years ago, so there are some brewers I simply haven't had recently enough to give a current thumbs up.

Some great recs on this thread though. I definitely have a short list of breweries to visit in NH/MA/Maine.

Mystic should probably be on this list. A friend prompted me to revisit their offerings and I've been really impressed. Not super easy to find fresh up here though.

Conspicuously absent from these lists: Maine Beer Co. What happened?

MBC on mine, though at #10. It would take a lot for me to take them off completely. Had a few bottles from this past Dinner release and it is as great as ever. I think the flavors of the day show up on these lists and some of the old faithful fall off. To each their own though.

    Well said jhavs.

MBC is still my benchmark for the subtle side of IPAs, but I haven't sought any out lately. Probably should fix that. King Titus is a fantastic porter. And those Hop Program releases were always interesting.

    Cheers.

are they still doing those hop programs? I haven't seen them on their site. Beer III (black ipa) is one of my favorite, most memorable beers I've had in the past few years.

Stopped in last week, had a glass of pepper and another one. Both were awesome after not having them in probably close to a year.. And no cmoney, they didn't have any hop program beers last week. I also heard from staff that now that they've expanded, dinner will eventually be on the shelf all the time (:flushed:).

Yeah they aren't listed on their site and are marked as retired on BA. Not sure if they were a one time thing or if they just pop up occasionally or what.

i don't list maine beer as one of my favorites because their packaging is antiquated and dumb.
