Yes sir! I was just wondering since I'm in FL a lot. Will be in Ft. Lauderdale in a few weeks, and still own a home in Naples. Miss it down there!

 

I think it's pretty funny actually. But I like to keep things light. I don't take myself too seriously to care about this term all that much.

 

I bought a bottle of Citra Ass Down and 35K, walked away with Bo and Luke still on the shelf. Fail.

The way I see shelf turd = a beer that noone touches/buys for a while and it just sits, REGARDLESS OF IF IT IS GOOD OR NOT.

And whats with the hating on turds man? turds rule! Nothing like taking a good poop.

 

There's a place in town that presents itself as a liquor store instead of a craft beer outlet and it creates some interesting Firestone Walker finds. Two weeks ago there were a few 2013 Parabolas, Sucabas and DDBA's. The owner of the store was funny; he's not a beer person and doesn't know what he's got so he doesn't market them to the public. My wife and I just check in to see what he might be getting on his shelves and he always has something interesting.

 

Many variants to chose from, heavily dependent upon location

Shelf whale: bcbs variants, modern cantillons

shelf dolphin: kbs, founders backstage releases, bcbs, parabola, wb gose

shelf turd: double dba, victory at sea, eclipse and most of its variants, breakfast stout, stone ris

dusty shelf turd: black ops , ommegang, southern tier, rogue

oxidized dusty shelf turd: vintages of above beers (eg 09 stone ris window display,'10 rogue chocolate stout)

 

2011 Longtrail Imperial Porter (brewmaster series). Didn't see the vintage till after I popped it, and went back to the store the next day only to find it was the last bottle. Currently sitting at #2 or #3 beer of 2014 (behind Cisco's Pechish Woods and tied with Upright's #7).

Ok, I think it's time to end this ridiculous thread.

 

No idea if they are common or what but Tart of Darkness and Sour in the Rye have been sitting around me for months. Nobody buys them because of price.

 

Just because you feel confused or that this term is meant to confuse does not mean that's what people's objective in using this phrase was, we're sorry you're confused. I haven't had Victory at Sea yet, but in reading about on here it seems to be a pretty solid Impy Porter, I have a bottle because it has sat on the shelf at a liquor store near me and still is as if it were unwanted or not significant.

 

I just ran into a stash of 2013 Firestone Walker Velvet Merkin... I only bought two, but I think I'll need to go back and buy the rest.

There is a place in Suffolk County that is loaded with every Maine Beer Company possible, Lunch included, except all of the beer except for a stout our out of code.

 

Not sure where you are but ive seen it just turding at The Spirit Haus in Amherst MA.
