Somewhat important because it also depends on my mood. I really enjoy sipping on a high ABV barrel aged beer, stouts, barleywines, porters, old ales. I also try to limit myself to two beers unless it's a low ABV I might have a few more.

It's important in the respect that I am interested like to know what ABV is. That's about as far as things go for me.

Is ABV going to encourage or discourage me from drinking a beer? Absolutely not.

Depends on the beer, the only high ABV I've tasted that I've enjoyed were the Rochefort series, I've had bad experiences with other high ABV beers.

Depends on the style as well, recently I've come to really like wheat type beers, the ones I've had are the moderate on ABV

I voted Very Important. This pertains to when I am at a restaurant/bar and know I am driving. I have to pace what I can do accompanied with the appropriate lag time. At home, don't really give a rats ass. That is why I am a big proponent of the 4 oz samplers if I am at a bar that has a lot of interesting taps. I can try a wide range and next time I am there zero in on what I liked.

I don't think I have ever based my choice of beer on the ABV.
Not to say I don't enjoy the effects of the alcohol, I just don't choose the beer for that reason.

I voted very important because it determines how much I can drink in a session.

But in terms of rating a beer, it's not overly important unless it's way out of whack with a style's convention.

As for a sales person/brewer/brewery rep/distributor using ABV as a starting point for introducing a beer, that makes sense to me. I don't like trying to guess ABV when it's not printed on the bottle/can, and I expect a tap list to include it somewhere.

I love beers less than 6% because i can drink more and not feel sick. The feeling of im about to puke is so awful i like to avoid that. A good buzz is cool but me getting drunk means im going to fall on or down the stairs, pass out on the floor cuz its colder down there than the couch etc....so abv is important because i dont want to wake up like shit.

The last time i didnt watch my abv i fell asleep at 9pm, woke up at 5am still drunk and needed a ride to work because i physically couldnt drive. It was awful and now im careful to watch the abv. If its not labeled i need to look it up.

Many posters confuse better tasting with stronger tasting;these are by no means the same thing.

It's somewhat important. I don't want a small beer under 4 percent at all. I also do not want an 11% IPA. Mostly I want to drink around 5 or 6 percent. Everything else is fewer and and farther between.

To me the ABV is irrelevant up until about 12%. It's kinda funny when someone tells me they like dark beers and I give them a Victory at Sea and they damn near choke because they've never had a 10% beer before. Like most things it's all relative to your life experience.

I drink beer for the taste, not to get a buzz. So AbV doesn't matter to me.

Abv matters to me for certain types of beers. Example some 750ml Berliners or wild ales priced at $16-$20 for less then 4% is always a pass. Bottles to go.

ABV is somewhat important - I generally enjoy beers north of 6% more than those south of that. Style is a huge factor - you're not going to find a 7% ABV English Bitter - so there is that, but it matters most (to me) when a brew is underflavoured for the given ABV - like a 5% Lager that tastes like soda water with a hint of cereal grain: that is not a good beer.

ABV doesn't mean much to me. I don't find that I ever really look at it. I like beers that taste good to me although it seems that many of the styles that I prefer to drink have a slightly higher Abv. I don't think that ABV equals flavor but the more flavor a beer has, the more ABV can be hidden behind that flavor. A lot of Brewers seem to take advantage of that.

ABV doesn't matter to me unless its a really low abv and the price is absurd.

ABV matters to me. I rarely enjoy beers over 10% ABV and I usually over look beers with an ABV lower than 4.5%.
