Can you get local beers that equal $6 that don't make it to Cali?

Just because some beers are popular/famous on BA does not mean it takes a lot to get them or you have to resort to the 'bay, i.e. PtE, KBS, DL, Heady, Abyss. Sure a couple of these won't go for random locals, but it isn't hard to but a package of certain locals together for them

I mean all I can think of is maybe Zombie Dust? But still it would cost about $20 to ship it there. I know on Craig's List people ask for an arm and a leg for one pliney, it's kind of ridiculous. Two Pliney's for one DL12 is what a couple locals have asked, which is quite a lot.

Zombie Dust will trade for PtE all day, all night. Offer 1 6 pack per 2 PtE.

I proxied some PtE a few months ago. Total cost of 2 PtE with shipping (which included two 12oz'ers I threw in as extras) was $24.25.

I would think 3-4 ZD should get you a PtE, you just might want to expand it to make shipping more worthwhile.

and the reason you see those things on CL and ebay is because there are assholes out there. They do not represent the typical "value" of beers... and this goes for more than PtE (cue guy saying BT 2011 might not be able to get a 2012 DL)

Shipping does suck. Nature of trading.

So for a guy that lives in the Chi Area that wants to get some PtE, what should I be offering in a local trade that isn't crazy. Just trying to get fair trades done. How many Pliney's should I demand for 1 DL'12?

    Zero.

Offer up Founders, FFF, Half Acre, Pipeworks, even New Glarus if you feel like making the trip. Locals for Locals.

If you want to trade your Dark Lord, try some Beatification or another limited seasonal release on the west coast.

    Haha, demand, haha, Pliney.

I think that might be a bit weird since no one in Chicago has Pliny without trading for it, or having recently visited the area.

Bah, everyone knows you shouldn't drink Pliny unless you are sucking it out of the spigot on the bright tank at Russian river. Otherwise its not fresh and has fallen off

Sorry. I'll go book a $600 round trip and go suck it out of the spigot! Ya I guess no one really has it around here, that would trade it according to what was mentioned above.

I try always to trade $4$. For limited beers I try to trade for other limited beers of same price, usually there is some evening on one end, usually with good locals to make $4$ match. Shelf beer same thing. Super rare beers are a different animal, but I try also to do the same, $4$ with equal rarity. Lots of folks lately not doing this, and welcome to the commodity market atmosphere that things like this BrewDex can only make worse.

For some reason, I love that this site exists. It's always fun when the BA trading community gets outraged.

What about Big John units? Or BJUs as we in the trading biz call it.

I think my favorite part of the site is the Tap Handles section:

    Vanilla Porter Breckenridge Brewing
    45

A curious number, given that they're up for sale on the Breckenridge site for $10 less...
