We're talking about 500 mL waxed W-n-B variants. I do agree with you on regular W-n-B 6pk deal. Other than that...

I understand. I haven't seen any of the special bottles up here in NJ. How much are they asking for them?

I'm with Greg from Greg's Beer Review on this one... just adds cost to the beer.

And now let's get back to his scheduled "dating rant".

I wonder how much GI spends on the BCBS bottles and labels? They certainly stand out, but I'd really prefer if they could lower the bottle and labeling cost and sell in 12oz doses.

You are spot on. That's why all those McDonald's went out of business.

Don't ignore the effects of competition in a crowded niche marketplace where overall sales are not showing growth.

Point of order. Edsel Ford was the man, son of Henry Ford. The car model was Ford Edsel, just as it is the Ford Mustang, and so on.

Another example of a car that was highly advertised but rejected by the buying public was the Chrysler Airflow. It was too big of a change for the buyers in the mid 1930s.

    Point taken.

Had forgotten about the Airflow, thanks for the reminder!

I liked my boxed can of Beachwood's Tovarish. I even tried to convince them, unsuccessfully, to use a wax envelope stamp to seal the box.

Originally the Edsel models (there were several, based on both Ford and Mercury chassis) were attributed to a stand-alone "Edsel Division" of Ford, just as there was a "Ford Division" and a "Lincoln-Mercury Division". Unlike the other two, Edsel Div. did not have it's own plants, so the cars were assembled at either Ford or L-M plants, depending on model - a factor which contributed to quality problems. Before disappearing, Edsel was folded into the L-M division.

By the 60s, Ford dropped the separate divisional plants, and Ford and Mercury (and sometimes Lincoln) models were typically assembled side-by-side* in the same plants. (Well, depending on the orientation of the particular assembly line, it might be more appropriate to say "bumper-to-bumper").

My assumption isnt that the box, etc itself adds a lot to the cost. Its almost the opposite: spending a small amount more on packaging can dramatically increase the beer's perceived value in the eye of the consumer.

I'm down with the packaging, but the immediate impression I get is "the brewer is charging me more than it should for the actual beer, and playing me for a bit of a fool."

But thats the way it is for all sorts of things. Sometimes I'll bite.

I'm past needing marketing to tell me if something is special, but I understand why breweries do it. I'm more forgiving of an easily removable piece like the tin, cardboard box, or tissue wrap, but I'm ready to be done with wax dipping.

Yes, that is correct. It was marketed as the Edsel.
