Millstream is number one with a bullet. Their Oktoberfest gets my vote for most underrated American beer.

wow I guess September is around the corner...
Augustiner, Spaten, Ayinger, Hacker-Pschorr, Paulaner are decent ones I had.
its not a favorite style of mine.

I had the SA one a few times it is a terrible beer to me, sadly. The best one I had here was down at Orlando brewing company. The 2nd best was A1A ale works.

You must be getting it pretty fresh, the last Millstream I had was sour... and it wasn't a Sour.

In addition to the usual Ayinger, Paulaner, Hacker, etc. I also really enjoyed Monchshof the one time I had it at Track 84. And I'm also a big fan of Saratoga Lager, which is a marzen-style brewed year-round.

Not sure if you've already had it, but you might want to try Flying Fish's Oktoberfish. I think it's damn good.

Spaten, Paulaner, and Hacker-Pschorr are all about the same price around me (Paulaner may even be higher) and they're the best Amber Märzens available for the season -- yes, my opinion, but it's also my favorite style and a style I've studied greatly over my many years of enjoyment -- in the US and in Munich.

Was UW-Stout your old stomping ground? I enjoyed many a Das Bierhaus brew and sadly didn't find out about Lazy Monk until I moved away but still pick up a growler when I am in EC.

Yes, it was the Kaltenburg? Or yes, Ludwig is offering a self-labeled Okto?

Whichever, I'll have to keep an eye out for either.

Good call on Sly Fox - that is an under appreciated domestic O Fest beer.

Yeah I was at UW-Stout for grad school. Das Bierhaus was great, good schnitzel too. Lazy monk seems to do a good job hiding, I didn't find out about them for quite a while, but their growlers have started to make their way for sale into Menomonie (if you haven't try their smoked bock, very good stuff).
