Looks like I'm going to have to try and get some Staghorn this year...

I am not a big SA fan but their Octoberfest is one of their best offerings. This list puts it in the avoid category which really baffles me. The also have the Post Road as one of the better pumpkin offerings which might have been the worst beer I had last year.

Not an Octoberfest but fall is my favorite time of year for a Dead Guy

Can't say I've tried much of the style, but I really look forward to SA Octoberfest as fall rolls in every year. Really fits fall, the greatest time of year.

    Others I have tried:
Dundee - (Very) Pleasantly surprised. Last year was the first time I tried it, close competitor with SA. Tasted exactly like my memory of my first SA from ~5 years ago, which SA has not come close to since. Although the very malty, little hops is probably not the style, I love it out of nostalgia as SA Oct. was one of my fav. in H.S. Also nice change of pace from the heavy hopped beers I usually enjoy.
Becks - Bought it really cheap once or twice in college. Nothing bad, step up from the usual pbr (or at least change of taste). Taste like beck's with a slight malt. Usually lasted a couple weekends, cause I couldn't drink more than a couple in a night before switching to another beer.

Sorry, but Hoss is not a Marzen. It is a rye lager - pretty sure rye isn't a proper German beer ingredient (by that old school law).

SA Octoberfest is like that itch that just fells great to scratch about this time of year, this time also being around Labor day weekend, not "now" when it's on shelf. That being said...

Totally agree. I have yet to find an American brewer that can make a Helles as perfect as Augustiner or Weihenstephaner......subtlety and balance is not something US brewers are very interested in....I like Stone and Dogfish as much as the next guy, but man cannot live on palate blasting IPA's and Imperial Stouts alone....

The smart-ass in me wants to write:

    1. Augustiner
    2. Hacker-Pschorr
    3. Paulaner
    4. Spaten
    5. Hofbrau

(You know, the five ACTUAL Oktoberfest beers..)

Oooop...wait...forgot about Lowenbrau....uh....how about six favorites?

This is one of my favorite styles. I recently tried 2X Steam and thought it was great - the malt & caramel characteristics reminded me of an Octoberfest, minus the roasted malt flavor profile which greatly separates and enhances the Octoberfest.

Even though they're pretty uncommon over in Munich, I prefer the amber versions that most brewers over here tend to make (and the Munich brewers export for us).
I think my absolute faves are from Dry Dock and Prost, but neither are packaged. Here are my favorites that make the rounds:
    1. Ayinger
    2. Left Hand
    3. Paulaner
    4. Great Lakes
    5. Spaten

I've only had 3, apparently. Well. I had Bell's Octoberfest, but I don't remember it because I was so damn full from food that I had ordered.

    1.) Atwater Bloktoberfest
2.) Sam Adams Octoberfest = Bell's Octoberfest (if I remember correctly)
    3.) Shiner Octoberfest

I've really enjoyed Bell's Oktoberfest in the past. Does anyone know for sure whether or not they plan to go back to bottling it? I thought the reason they didn't last year was because they were expanding the brewhouse?
