I'm so excited I'll finally be able to stop making my own. No more flat Sprite with vodka for me!!!

I drank one of those when I was like 9. It was awesome. Basically just tastes like a not-as-sweet Sprite. Would definitely snag a sixer for shits and giggles if I saw it.

Sounds like it when it opens, and yet it never tasted like it. So sad...

Got some fuzzy HS memories that involve this particular beverage. Those were dark times. Honestly, back then I drank zima because my knowledge of "beer" was limited to BMC. And that stuff tasted like crap to 18 year old me. Then Honey Brown led to Newcastle led to Guiness led to Samuel Smiths... Now I chase trucks in pursuit of hazy IPAs. I've come so far!

Also that scary killer Glen Close hair! Yikes.....We need a complete beverage reset these days, something to soothe the national soul.....Please bring back that cloudy clumpy California Cooler, both the original and orange, and the tropical for the adventurous types.

All of those wine coolers were/are malt based. Not a drop of wine.

"Are", yeah - but the original versions in the 1980s like the best-sellers, Bartles & James (from Gallo) and Sun Country (from Canandaigua Wine Co.), were a mixture of white wine and fruit juice. Not sure when most of the survivors "evolved" into malt beverages, but in the beginning they caused a lot of "legal" problems in Mandatory Deposit states ( wine bottles weren't originally charged the deposit in many of them) and states where originally only beer could be sold in grocery stores, etc.

Heileman and Stroh both eventually had malt-based "cooler" lines - La Croix and White Mountain, respectively - but not sure where they fit in chronologically with the rest of the industry moving to malt-based products - which, of course, had the advantage of smaller excise tax rates and the ability to be sold in states that allowed beer sales in many more retailers than the wine-based product could.

I used to enjoy the occasional Zima as a change-of-pace drink when at a day long cookout/picnic type thing, or over a weekend of camping. Don't think I ever wanted two in a row, but one every so often wasn't the worst thing ya could drink.

Zima was a joke to me and my friends when it came out originally - though I did have one friend who swore by it. Last time I saw him, however, he showed up at my house with beers from Tree House and Trillium, so I'm guessing his tastes have changed a bit in the last 2 decades.....
