Big changes in locations this year!

    Seattle - Slow Boat Tavern
    Tillamook - de Garde
    Anchorage - Anchorage Brewing

I love Slow Boat, but the place is much smaller than Brouwers.

Wait. I was under the impression that every day is Zwanze Day in Portland?!?

Oh man... This changes things. Driving from Canada and was planning on Zwanze at Apex. Was planning to visit De Garde anyways.... Wonder how they'll handle it?

Looks like I will be skipping the event this year. Odd choice to pick Tillamook instead of somewhere in Portland.
Never heard of Slow Boat. Must be new since I left Seattle a year ago. Another odd choice though.

Slow Boat is down in Hillman City/Columbia City, I don't think they've been open a year. It's a great beer bar with an awesome selection. Guy who owns it used to work at Uber Tavern I think. It's just not very big, which is why I was surprised.

I'll be in Seattle that day on my honeymoon.. now to convince her that we should spend the day drinking lambic.

Just get her some edibles from the legal weed store first. She'll be all chillaxed, and it will seem like a great idea to her.:sunglasses:

Good luck with convincing her! I'm lucky in that my girlfriend is almost as into beer as I am.

Mine is not nearly as into it as me but she's not averse to it. Our honeymoon starts in San Fran with RR and Toronado and goes up the coast through Tillamook before ending in Seattle. We were planning to hit Holy Mountain and Bottleworks so if we do Zwanze instead I'll have to trade out those I'm sure. Hoping to see some other BA'ers there!

My cousin lives in Everett and brought some edibles on a recent visit and I think they nearly killed my fiancee. Well, that and the beer. Doubt she'll be trying that again!

Zwanze at de Garde sounds absolutely epic. Major props to them for being chosen. The downside is obviously driving out to Tillamook to drink beer when I could have walked or ubered to Apex... oh well.

As per De Gardes Facebook it'll be a ticketed event (not terribly surprising). Anyone have any insight on how they normally handle event tickets?

Ticketed events were normally sold online in the past, but you had to drive out to the brewery for the last anniversary party to buy tickets.

Yes, we are doing a ticketed event. Our reasoning is that should someone want to come out for Zwanze/Cantillon beer, we want to be able to guarantee access ahead of time, and not a potential drive and a potential wait in line that could ultimately result in nothing. We are not fans of lines, and try to avoid them in the interest of the best customer experience. Our taproom will be open still, and those without tickets are welcome to mingle and/or share with those that do in the expanded space we'll be opening in the brewery as well.

More information will be coming as soon as we have more details to share, but ticket sales will almost certainly be 'in person' ahead of time. We're aware that this may be seen as an extra complication, but as the only Oregon location, it helps to attend to the more local audience first.

Ultimately, no matter how it is organized or where it is hosted, it will not be ideal for many. For that we are apologetic. We are working and will continue to work towards it being an excellent event, and one that mitigates massive lines, absurd pricing, and other concerns. We're excited to share, and strongly believe that those who choose to attend will have an amazing experience.

    Cheers!

I assume you meant to say in-person ticket sales unless you're driving through that week on your honeymoon, in which case you get tickets and can drink straight from the broken truck barrels if you want.

J/K - always a professional attitude from you guys @deGardebrewing!

That news for me is quite heartbreaking.

Road tripping across Canada to BC (no Zwanze day within 600 miles of home) and was planning to drive down for a quick weekend Portland / De Garde trip with a few friends and the girlfriend. Figured on Zwanze day at Apex as per the previous couple of years, and a trip to Tillamook the next day). With the change in venues we were definitely hoping to be able to attend out first Zwanze day at your wonderful brewery which we love!

As a friend of mine says; "edibles, for when you want to be stoned tomorrow too!" . Apparently, you've really got to take small bites. A couple of my friends swear by the enhanced soda pops. Enjoy your trip!

I used to care about Zwanze day, until i figured out that we have access to dozens of wild/sour beers all year round that I like much more than anything Cantillon makes (including DeGarde). not to mention that my pallet gets tired of the sour after about 12-16oz.

either way, for sour enthusiasts and serious Cantillon fans, Im sure this will be a beer-geek beergasm.

I can't think of one wild/sour beer available on a shelf in the PNW that I like as much as anything Cantillon makes. Not much for crowds though, so this is a consistent pass.

Awww man bummer about doing the tickets 'in-person' only. Was planning to come down from Spokane. But I totally understand the reasoning.

I understand how you feel, and any disappointment you have. As stated above, we're trying to figure out how best to make this work, knowing full well that it won't be ideal for many. I do think that it's safe to say that no matter where it were hosted this year (as the market for funky and awesome beer has grown), demand would drastically outpace supply.

Edit: We will also be open for normal draft and bottle sales in our taproom. I hope for anyone interested in wild beer that would be some manner of consolation, knowing still that it's potentially not a perfect situation.
