Why is there such disparity around the country as to what is offered at this event? Aside from different shops getting different Cantillon bottles to pour (which makes sense), why do some shops have bottles for sale to go, others have bottles for sale for on-site consumption, while others have no bottles for sale? Does this have to do with what the shops have in their cellars? Also, I noticed some places had glasses for sale. That Iris glass is sexy!
It is my understanding that every participating bar gets 2 kegs. 1 Zwanze & 1 other beer which for some places was Iris Grand Cru this year. Everything else offered is an initiative by the bar / organizers etc. This obviously leads to a lot of variation as to what you get offered.
I'm pretty sure my Zwanze place acquires and cellars Cantillon bottles throughout the year and saves a lot for Zwanze Day. They had A LOT of the Cantillon lineup available yesterday. Several items were very limited, but overall there was a lot to go around.
That's how Lord Hobo in Cambridge MA does it too, and that's fine by me. I save up my money to splurge on bottled loonage on Zwanze day.
I would have to ask any Italian craft beer fans living in Italian how Zwanze Day went. I am mighty curious myself...
