After working out some of the kinks from the first edition, this year's Medianoche Reserve has been fine-tuned to showcase the perfect marriage of barrel-aging, adjuncts, and most importantly...quality. The result is one of our finest barrel-aged expressions to date.
Medianoche Reserve is a blend of Imperial Stouts aged in 8-9 year Bourbon barrels for 21 months, then aged with toasted coconut flakes, raw coconut chips, Ugandan vanilla beans, Belizean roasted cacao nibs from Cultura Craft Chocolate, and Ghanan roasted cacao nibs and husks from Nuance Chocolate, each selected to complement the natural flavors imparted by the barrels.

Bottle pour into a snifter. Completely opaque. Cannot see through this beer in any fashion. Looks super viscous and syrupy. Smell is dark chocolate fudge with a hint of bourbon. Reminded me of dark fudge brownie batter with a splash of bourbon. Smells decadent. Taste is exactly what I thought....fudge brownie batter and a nice bourbon kick. Not hot from the barrel or abv by any means. Feel is insanely viscous. Mouth coating to say the least. This coated my entire throat and digestive system for a few days, no doubt. Overall, this stout was magnificently decadent. Fantastic flavor throughout.

poured from a 500mL bottle into a taster glass. pours a thick chocolate syrup black with some tiny coconut floaties. heavy cocoa and a nice vanilla / coconut sweetness with the barrel in the background tying it all together. on the sweeter side but not overly sweet (for today’s standards) and finishes with a good amount of barrel. syrupy thick mouthfeel. almost borders on too sweet but the barrel keeps it in check. syrupy thick mouthfeel. extremely filling and decadent.
