Firehouse Brown-eyed Girl, 6.4% ABV. Pours brown with a slight off-white head. Nose is bread and nuts, taste is mildly sweet, bready, nutty, with slight bitterness. Decent mouthfeel, overall very good.

The appearance was a dark brown color. Bar pour didn’t have any head. The smell had a light nuttiness with a roasty malt. There was some light chocolate in there as well. The taste followed the nose. On the palate, this one sat light for a brown ale, perhaps a little more watery than expected. Pretty sessionable. Overall, no complaints from me, could probably have downed a fair amount of these in a session.

On draft at the brewery.
The beer has a dark chestnut body with a small beige ringlet atop. Aromas include malt, earthy hops, nuts. Similar flavor, with a light sweetness. Thin body. Some toasted caramel and biscuit / bread notes as well. This was decent.

Visited on site and picked up a growler. One of the best beers that Firehouse makes. Pours a very rich and clear ruby brown color. Very limited head retention, which was not the problem on site but was for the growler. The foam remained around the edge but dissipates over time. There was good lacing when it was there.
A good malty English smell. The overall smell is not strong or dominate but it is noticeable. A burnt and mixed roasted quality is the major component. Some other tones are caramel and a nutty quality.
The taste is rich with malty flavor. A big roasted malt flavor is dominated but very smooth and too a degree creamy. Sweet but balanced well with a nut taste and a hint of chocolate. The hops are limited but support the bill. Maybe more of a flavor would be nicer. There also is a slight watery taste. Not really watered down but noticeable especially in the aftertaste.
The taste is good but the body is light with a slight water glow to it. Also the carbonation is really low even to style. There is a very rich malt aftertaste that should be noted, that heightens the taste.
Overall this is a good beer. A must have if you visit.

06/21/05- On tap via samplers at the Firehouse Brewing Co, in Rapid City, SD.
Presentation- Via 4 oz sampler glasses, sampled three times.
Appearance- Amber-brown pour with a small head and light lacing.
Smell- Smells very bitter with dark burnt nuts overall.
Taste- This a a pretty good true nut brown ale. Like a Newcastle, but MUCH better. Maybe liken it to a Samuel Smith's Nut Brown. Coffee and lots of nuts.
Mouthfeel- Well carbonated, but a tad creamy going down.
Drinkability- One of the better english brown ales I have had. Top three for sure. Wish they bottled these.

Using dark malted barley and brown sugar, Firehouse makes a great dark ale that has a little sweetness. Those wonderful Northwest hops from Oregon give this beer a gloriously flavorful taste. There is a hint of a porter aroma to it - with that mocha first taste. Good beige colored head, some lacing. This will be very popular with those who favor porter with an attitude. Excellent hoppy finish.
