Interesting brewpub compound, location is not optimal as it fronts the beginning of an underpass under the highway on the northern fringe of downtown. Parking in back and walk through a large courtyard with deck seating and an outside bar built into the side of a shipping container. Taproom is down an alley with some interesting murals and has the feel of a biker's clubhouse. 14 beers on tap and a couple of food trucks.

Busy, tall ceilinged and a window wall, opposite the bar. This brewery has some aficionados manning the taps, which can steer you in the right direction, beer wise. For instance, I ended up with a Biére-de-Garde, which was not the usual micro brewery fare, and was interesting and good. The ambience is modern with dark grey and black color scheme, polished concrete flooring. Lots of socializing at the tables.

Woke up Tuesday in Bend and wondered if I really nearly died the day before or did I just dream that. Staying the extra few days on this trip out west seeeeeeeemed like a good idea at the time, but we’re winding down now. Lunch and then definitely the long way around back to Portland one way or another that isn’t that through that goddamn mountain pass that tried to kill us on the way in. Easy enough to find, I just couldn’t touch the Moon. Rolled past it and couldn’t easily get back to it due to train tracks, an overpass, and having to loop to park out back and come up through an alley to the front side anyway. I see you’re going to make me work for it today…

Single room with an ‘L’ shaped bar to the rear; gray concrete topped, with a panel base & steel foot ledge. Seating for nearly a dozen on wood topped aluminum squared stools and a narrower piece on the end of the bar for accessible seating. Wood panel barback holds a center serving tank extending through the wall with 16 non-descript handles and a logo piece up above on high. The barback counter space to both sides holds glassware stacked, strung glow rope lit shelved booze above, & flats atop. 1’ by 1’ blackboards in 2 rows listing draft selections (beer style, ABV, & IBU) on the end over an upright can cooler, specials & events board, and a kitchen peek-a-boo.

Pebbled concrete floors & framed arched rafter ceiling with ductwork, spinny fans, & drop pan lamps tracing the bar and across the floor. Brick wall on one end with a few framed pieces, pale green wall on the other end with a flat, and gray painted walls up front with a trio of large square windows to each side of the entrance. Brick front corner step up stage area with a mural & drop projection screen, too. Nearly 2 dozen tables square & slab recs, high & low, stooled & on shared benchings about the room and wrapping around the side. Lest I forget to mention the spacious outdoor wraparound patio deck with sectioned seating penned (some of it umbrella’d up or under awnings), fire pits, band play, food truck action, etc. I think there also may be a bar of sorts out there.

15 beers up (IPA 97, IPA, 7%; Mango Daze, Fruited Pale Ale, 6%; Guava Days, Fruited Pale Ale, 6%; Blood Orange & Cranberry, Fruited Pale Ale, 5.5%; Cranberry & Key Lime, Fruited Pale Ale, 5.5%; SMB Ale, Golden Ale, 4.7%; SMB IPA, IPA, 5.3%; Von Trapp Hans, Vienna Lager, 5.2%; Simon Screams, Double Hazy IPA, 9.9%; Raspberry Nights, Fruited Porter, 7%; Xul, Mexican Style Stout, 7.5%; Moonlight, Pilsner, 5%; BA Xul, Imperial Mexican Style Stout, 10%; Bangarang, Kettle Sour, 5%; Simon Says, Hazy IPA, 7.6%), + a guest tap cider (Legend Coastal Cranberry, 6%).

I hit 5 on sampler (IPA 97, pine, resin, citrus, NW IPA yay, good stuff; Mango Daze, Fruited Pale Ale, sweet mango, not bad, not great; Von Trapp Hans, Vienna Lager, sweet, crisp, a respectable Lager; Raspberry Nights, Fruited Porter, Raspberry, chocolate, roast, WIN; Xul, Mexican Style Stout, good cinnamon & pepper spiciness, dark chocolate, vanilla, maybe, also very good).

Food, it’s taco Tuesday, 2 for $5. Well, hello, tacos, yes, please, and thank you. I went grilled chicken, Witz had the steak. Theys was goodz. And there may have been some Toteroids (jalapeno cheddar popper tots), just saying. Did I mention that from now on, I eat all hot things?

Beers were good overall and the food, too. Hendrix tunes (Jimi jams) and some pleasant conversation this afternoon, trying to avoid that ride back to Portland that just won’t go away.

Was here yesterday .
Very open and welcoming brew pub just outside the nicer area of Bend.
Seems to have a lot of local trade and a smattering of people on the Bend Ale Trail.
I found the bar person very nice and the beers good and not expensive.
Had some food here and it was good though not the best.

Friendly, relaxed. Good niche neighborhood pub. One of the very best sites in Bend to simply relax and enjoy an excellent selection of well-crafted brews. Zero pretense. Zero BS.

I stopped in and a had a few beers at Silver Moon Brewing on my recent pilgrimage to Bend. While I don't think it's a major destination brewery, it had all the hallmarks of a popular neighborhood brewpub.

In a lot of ways, it reminded me of a really nice dive bar. Monday Night Football on several TVs, plenty of regulars bellying up to the bar, and friendly, outgoing staff. Their selection was good, with 10 or 12 taps, although the beer was mostly OK and not particularly noteworthy. As a beer lover's destination, it's OK, but as a neighborhood pub with a great atmosphere, it's definitely a place to go.

Not a bad place at all, we called about 15 minutes before they closed ( at the time we did'nt know their times ), and the guy said they would close after we had drank our fill. Nice, that is pretty cool, Oregon again, it is all good.

Same guy waits on us that was on the phone, good bartender, service is all that, and the guy keeps you entertained if you wanted, and won't bother you if that is your thing.

I had the Bonecrusher, you should too. Nice hoppy, malty red ale, very well balanced and tasty, also tried the dark truth stout - not so much, should have got another Bonecrusher.

The bartender said they were starting some remodeling next week, so that could push the ratings here up a bit, I would come back, decent beer, decent service, and improving atmosphere, heck yah!

This was stop #32 for my wife and I on a 21-day pub-crawl from Michigan to N. CA and OR. We stopped here on a Tuesday afternoon to enjoy their beers. The pub building fronts on a busy street that has no curb parking, and an ugly chain link fence lines the street between the curb and the sidewalk which detracts from the building and even masks it a bit since the street is an underpass at that point in the block. A parking lot is in the rear of the building. The interior has a lot of black leather and chrome chairs/stools, which do not fit with a brewpub vibe. However, the brewing equipment is behind a glass wall, and that helps pick things back up.

It was a nice day so we ordered a sampler flight and sat outside. A few tables are located in the narrow area between the brewery and the neighboring building, plus a couple small tables are on the front sidewalk. There is no ‘beer garden ambience’ in either location. We ordered a sampler with 5 of the nine beers that were available. Each was brewed to style, and each of them received a score between a C+ and a B- in our grading system.

The beers were acceptable to justify a trip back here some day, but something about the ambiance was not to our liking, so it would not be at the top of our list for another visit.

Living in Bend, we have SO many breweries... It's nice to see one of the first breweries in town stepping up and producing some great beer. The new owners have really done a lot with this place and I'm excited to see how they grow in the future. Love the new bottles! Keep up the great work Silver Moon.

As mentioned in my 10 Barrel review, atmosphere-wise, this place is the polar opposite of that place.

While 10 barrel is upscale and trendy, this place is pretty dumpy looking, looking for all the world like a pool hall dive. There were no well dressed hipsters at the Silver Moon, the day I stopped by, and I doubt the bartenders here specialize in trendy designer cocktails. Otherwise, the place is fairly spacioius, with some fairly rickety looking table and chairs in the main dining area, and then a fair size bar straight back from the front entrance when you walk in. There were a couple of TV sets going when I stopped by, with most of the modest size crowd watching the ducks demolish the hapless buffs (which was the only thing the SM clientele had in common with the 10 barrel crowd).

As for the selection, they had some 8 different house beers on tap this day, including a fresh hop IPA. The latter was what I ordered, and I have to say it was considerably better than anything I had over at 10 barrel. Also tried the DIPA, which was also pretty tasty, though a bit sweet for my palate. Service was friendly and quick, with the friendly bartender sympathizing with my unhappiness over the lack of the Uncle Jim Maui Wowie DIPA (which he confirmed was a very popular beer, and one he was hopeful the brewer would be making again).

Prices were reasonable I thought. My 12 ounce glass of the fresh hop IPA was $3.50.

Didn't try the food... maybe nex time (if there is a next time).

An interesting place, but unless they happened to have on tap a beer I just had to have (and couldn't find elsewhere in town), I'm not sure I can see myself coming back here again any time soon.
