330 mL bottle from the LCBO, included in I&G's 2025 holiday mixed pack. Best before Jun 30 2027 and served barely chilled.
Pours a crystal clear golden colour, generating at least two fingers of fluffy, foamy white head that lasts for five minutes, give or take. An attractive coat of sloppy lace is strewn across the glass, with a soapy cap and collar lasting indefinitely; looks great so far. The nose is fairly typical of an I&G product: oak, toffee, vanilla and rum, with suggestions of almond, butterscotch and leafy, earthy, floral hops.
A tasty strong ale, but its IPA cred, English or otherwise, is questionable. I'm getting toffee, orchard fruits, oak and rum, with hints of almond and orange peel. Notes of vanilla come through later in the sip, joined by floral, tea leafy hops and some mild earthy bitterness; finishes with oak, rum and vanilla fading into a slightly warming aftertaste with a light wood tannin astringency. Medium in body, with middling carbonation levels that lend some spritz to this brew's otherwise smooth mouthfeel. Fair drinkability, but there's nothing about this brew that makes me want to immediately crack open another.
Final Grade: 3.97, on the high end of a B+. Innis & Gunn hasn't had a lot of luck with IPAs in the past, at least IMO - I can't recall any that have genuinely impressed me. Their Rum Cask IPA manages to avoid that pitfall, but that's because it's basically just a hoppier, slightly less saccharine take on their classic Rum Cask ale (a staple of their portfolio for more than a decade). This doesn't strike me as an especially novel brew, and I don't think it's much of an IPA to be honest, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't like it. Not a must-try, but worth the tick if you enjoy I&G's mainline fare.

Bottle. Clear light amber. Thick white billowy head. Lacing present.
I can smell the rum cask along with hop flowers.
The quercus and rum tainted flavour is quite pronounced when tasted. Alcohol is apparent. Bittersweet. Vanilla?
Vibrant carbonation. Middling body.
A melange of styles. Strong ale, IPA, EIPA and BA. A tasty brew.

At my lady Pamela's house; bottled and chilled, 330mL in a pint glass. From their Cask Matured Discovery Pack at the University Ave. West LCBO in nearby downtown Windsor. Best before June 30/27. My 7th beer from the Edinburgh, Scotland brewery; 2nd of 2026. With Sundae the cat's awestruck appreciation...

330ml bottle from this year's Holiday 4 pack. Served cold into a chalice.
Appearance - Fairly clear rich golden brew with very minimal head and lacing.
Smell - Earthiness, slight suggestion of the signature oak and vanilla, with some earthy and slightly sweet hops.
Taste - Matches the nose, mildly bitter, hints ok oak and vanilla. More bitterness than most from I&G but not entirely cohesive. I liked this rendition though.
Mouthfeel - Medium -full bodied with low carbonation and semi-dry finish.
Overall - Maybe this is an English IPA, but with the higher ABV, and the signature I&G trademarks in play, this is really a hybrid of styles and has been ranked as such. Tasty enough and interesting brew to add to a mix pack and glad to have tried, but nothing stands out enough to want me to go purchase another bottle or two.
