Appearance: Slightly hazy, golden egg-yolk in color, with a modest, fine-beaded white head, which soon collapses to a ring about the glass wall, and a scattering of foam about the surface. Streams of fine-beaded bubbles drift lazily to the surface, a little sediment is also noted.
Aroma: Coriander and pale malt dominate the aroma. There are also hints of tropical fruit, and something reminiscent of nectarine rind. Phenols are present, but serve in a supporting role, rather than dominating. The Strisselspalt hops contribute a pleasant, spicy note that seems a little more assertive than more familiar noble varieties.
Taste: Opens with solid pale malt, bready yeast, and coriander. Mild tropical fruit flavors present in the middle of the taste. Phenols appear later, but serve as a counterpoint to the taste, rather than being overpowering. Commendations are due for Independence use of the excellent and rare French Strisselspalt hop, which, while contributing primarily to the aroma, offers a mild herbal bitterness to bring the taste to a gracious close.
Mouth feel: Rich and full, with delicate carbonation.
Drinkability/notes: Very well done, a quite drinkable example of the style, while managing to avoid being completely "over-the-top". Independence Brewing notes that this is a limited release, hopefully it will be part of the seasonal rotation, it is quite good. Note that Revolución should be consumed at cellar temperatures, if too cold, much of the subtle aroma and taste will be lost.
Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce aluminum can, served in a South American-style Pilsener glass.
