Red Racer S’more Stout. 5%.
Beige head and the beer is a black colour reminiscent of Coca-Cola.
Slight dark malt aroma. The taste is roasted malt, chocolate, and general sweetness.
The mouthfeel is smooth and the body medium to full.
Finish is sweet and dry.
This is decent. Remember to let it warm a bit before drinking - that will bring out the flavour.

 

Pours dark brown with frothy tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, faint caramel and dark roasted malt. Taste of chocolate, vanilla,bit of caramel. Really a bit on the thin side - sweet but no real complexity and I do not get S’mores. Good enough but not outstanding.

This brew is out of retirement for Winter 2018-19. 650 ml bottle served cold into a tulip. An LCBO purchase for $6.95 CDN, Packed on K0118, so i'm guessing this was November 1, 2018.

Appearance - Dark cola brown, drowns out the light. Two fingers of dense and frothy light tan head. Lots of lacing behind. and above average staying power.

Smell - Roasty dark chocolate, some marshmallow and caramel sweetness. Subtle undertones of crackery goodness. Main complaint is that the intensity isn't really ratcheted up, this is more subtle and nuanced with with the thought of S'Mores, I'm anticipating a little more.

Taste - Some bitter dark chocolate, mineral water, suggestions of crackery goodness, virtually no marshmallow or caramel and earthy undertones throughout. A solid enough stout, but doesn't strike me as a sweet stout. Also noticeable doesn't improve in any significant way as it warms

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, slick, well carbonated and dry finish. Hoping for a thicker more palate coating type of feel to mimic the features of S'Mores.

Overall - Not a bad beer by any stretch, however, doesn't live up to the expectation of a chewy and gooey, full flavor S'More beer that you'd expect. Maybe with an amped up ABV the flavors would shine through a little more, making it more akin to some of the big flavorful stouts out there.

Bomber from the LCBO; dated Oct 1 2018 and served near cellar temperature. This year's version is listed at 5.5%.

Pours a deep mahogany-bronze: dark hued for sure, but revealed to be fully transparent when held to a light. Situated atop is nearly an inch of buff-tinted foam, lasting roughly three minutes as it disintegrates down to a thin collar. A skimpy band of lacing is scattered about in the process; looks fine to me. The aroma is approachable but not particularly detailed - in descending order, roasted malts, caramel and cocoa are the most prominent aspects, with minor hints of graham cracker, vanilla and milk chocolate. Enticing enough I suppose, but a bit tame for something billed as a s'more stout.

A serviceable stout - its mild roasted grain notes are overshadowed somewhat by sweeter notes of caramel and toffee, with hints of milk chocolate and cocoa carried in tow close behind. A bit of cocoa powder bitterness comes through towards the finish, with touches of vanilla and earthiness preceding a lightly roasty aftertaste that lasts only briefly. Medium-light in body, with low carbonation levels that hardly even register on the tongue; this one is unfailingly smooth and soft, but does feel a tad thin for the style. Easy to drink, at least - more so than most examples of this style, actually.

Final Grade: 3.77, a B+. Red Racer S'more Stout ain't at all bad, but I'm not exactly thrilled with it, either. This is a respectable milk stout whose primary flaw is that it fails to live up to its confectionery namesake - unfortunate, as that fact is guaranteed to taint the experience for BAs who were expecting something more... dessert-like? This one grew on me quite a lot as I neared the dregs, but at the end of the day, it's annoying when a brew's traits fail to live up to its title. This stout is worth a try, but at 7 bucks a pop I doubt I'll be returning any time soon.

Bottle: Poured a clear light black color ale with a light brown foamy head with minimal retention and some light amount of lacing. Aroma of sweet chocolate notes with light vanilla extract is OK. Taste is a mix of sweet chocolate notes with light vanilla notes and almost no resemblances to s ’mores. Body is super thin with medium carbonation. A good marketing ploy but the actual beer doesn’t deliver.

 

I'm not sure I am getting full value out of this beer. With a clean palate, i began the sampling...I didn't get an awful lot of anything. The beer almost literally tasted like nothing. I did not get vanilla at all,and though I got roasts, they faded incredibly quick. It's also very thin for a stout.

All in all not a very enjoyable beer.

Not a big fan, would love to know if they add liquor to this cause it tastes like khalua.

 

 

Hmmmm... definitely interesting. To me, the smell was spot on S’More - the toasted marshmallow was extremely clear. The rest of the package simply feels like a gimmick. I’m not a big fan of fake flavors with my beer, so this won’t be on my “try again” list.

 

330ml bottle, day 9 of 'The Great White Wonder Adventure Pack', a collaboration between Central City and Parallel 49 to provide a Beer Advent (I can say that, even if they can't) holiday experience. When they say 'natural flavours', you know that it's not actually graham crackers.

This beer pours a clear, very dark orange-highlighted brown colour, with two fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly tan head, which leaves some streaky coral reef arch lace around the glass as it quickly dissipates.

It smells of roasted and bready caramel malt, vanilla beans, brown sugar, bittersweet cocoa powder, and rather subtle earthy, leafy, and floral noble hops. The taste is semi-sweet, grainy and bready caramel malt, medium baker's chocolate, stale marshmallows, pie crust, and more bland earthy, musty, and dead floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly tame in its perfunctory frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and generally smooth, with maybe a touch of random char messing with the ideal here. It finishes off-dry, the muddled dessert flavours wanly fading to black.

Overall - yeah, this tries, and gets close to, but never really actualizes the flavour of the titular confection (which is more of an autumn treat, IMHO). The more I drink of it, the more I just want to go and procure some real Christmas baking.
