Fat Fish is an unusually light, sunny yellow color. This is somewhat odd for an ale, even a pale ale, but the clarity and brilliance of the hue was captivating. Most other parameters for this beer were pleasant enough, if somewhat less enchanting. The head and lace are modest, as is the slight yeasty aroma. The taste strays towards tartness at first, with some comparable properties to that of a wheat beer. The bittering can be likened to a special bitter with a discreet malty balance.
I drank this one especially slowly and was rewarded by a greater showing of flavor as the temperature reached ideal levels. At this juncture, the mouthfeel made an impressive come-from-behind play to score points for its full, rounded contours.
