Flowing alongside nine other fine beers at this past weekend's East End Open House and flowing was not the expected Session Ale #4 but it's slightly aged brethern that sort of morphed like all perishable brews do and Session Ale #4.1 Mild Sour Ale was born. I love a brewery that is able make a "mistake" taste genius...this one just had some time added to it. Appearance was a copper amber hue with a full off white head formed. In the nose I'm not detecting the one time Simcoe hop profile that this once Single Malt had to offer....but some sweet malt base with a touch of acidity going on, hard to describe. Flavor had a mild tart sour twang with some bready sweet malt to balance it out light citrus tone survives but it truly melded into a mild sour ale...challenging and tasty. Beer didn't taste like one of those drain pours beers that have turned but instead the flavors melded into something different, cool. Mouthfeel was a lighter bodied offering with even mild carbonation and not much texture going on with that. Drinkability was pretty good I enjoyed the touch of acidity that this beer had to offer definitely a pleasant surprise to the lineup.
