I imbibed this brew at the Jean Bonnet Tavern in Bedford, Pa. Listed plainly as East End Brewery Olde Hickory Ale, but the East End brewmaster assured me it was the Scotch Ale.
Appearance: Poured a heavily carbonated dark brown body with no head (so poor retention?) and subequently no lacing.
Smell: A nice hop spice followed by a mild malt background.
Taste: Very bland, but hints toward more of the same spice, a bit watery.
Mouthfeel: Crisp, nothing sticking out.
Drinkability: Decent and nothing more.
Don't drink and review.

A- Rich red/brown body with foamy off-white head. Leaves behind plenty of lacing in the glass.
S- Deep malty smell with some hop background.
T- Toasted malt and fruitiness come through first. The finish is a good hop-malt balance. Some hops and sweet malt linger.
M- medium to high carbonation and somewhat thin body.
D- This is a good scottish ale. Interesting and enjoyable. Easily sessionable.

Appearance: Murky medium brown/red color with a decent off-white head. Good lacing.
Smell: Somewhat mild. Very slight toasty aroma and something akin to tomatoes..strange.
Taste: Mild and lacks complexity. Some toasted malts and a definite hop bite at the end.
Mouthfeel: A little thinner than expected, but good carbonation.
Drinkability: Quite easy to quaff a few.

"OLD HICKORY is a Scottish Ale appropriately enough, with a rich malty character and just a wee-bit of U.K.hop character. It should hit the taps here at the brewery and around town right around the second week of June, so look for the golf club tap handle, made out of an old, hickory shafted club - here, and at a few select tap spots around town." - Scott Smith's Good Beer News
On tap at Bocktown currently alongside Blackstrap, Kvass 100, and a couple Sprague brews from up in Venango. Appears a rich hazed amber ruby tone froms a large off white, beige head leaving behind some lacing around my glass. Aroma contains a touch of herbal hop accents with malty sweetness caramel roasted malts and a undertone of tart vinous ripened fruit character, the tartness is a bit muted in the background but it's interesting kinda green raisin or cranberry flow going on. Flavors are a bit subdued comes off initially tart with those fruit qualities I was smelling but the highlight of this Scottish ale is the caramel malt profile rolling sweetness complemented by light herbal kinda funky UK hop with some leafy green tobacco accents. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied carbonation is light but ample a really mellow offering and that works considering the weather during the recent US Open. Drinkability overall, not the most dead on Scottish Ale style wise but unique and local and there's enough interesting flavor here to get me to order another, a little more body would be nice but I'm pleased overall.
