Big thanks to CrazyMacHarris99 for this one.
Growler poured into a pint - 2008 - Fridge temp

Appearance: Pours a very murky, opaque brown color with some red and orange highlights. The head actually gets to about and inch and dies down rather gently. The head is ivory and not much lace is left behind.

Smell: Belgian spice dominates this one. Plenty of raisin, some clove and banana topped off with caramel malt. Smells sweet.

Taste: Excellent caramel and Belgian spice flavors. Very heavy black pepper makes a pinch in the mouth. Some clove and a little bit of banana. Very nice malt flavors. Sweet.

Mouthfeel: Very chewy and biscuity. Nice alcohol warmth. Ample carbonation. I can really appreciate the lack of filtering with this brew.

Drinkability: Very nicely done. It's smooth, burning, satisfying. I could have had the whole growler, but I'll save it for another time. Worth trying!

Stopped into Sharp Edge Creekhouse with my lady and baby for lunch on a Wednesday. Luckily, all large drafts and belgian taps were a dollar off. I spied this one off brew from the Best of the Burgh Belgian style competition and I had to try it. Dubbel Trubbel appears with a ruby mahogany chestnut tone with a large tan head forms even bands of lacing with each sip from my imperial pint. Aromatics give off raisin and tart green apples with sweet Belgian candi sugar, ripened fruit notes soaked in mild tame alcohol. Flavors blend caramelized sugars with herbap hops, dark aged fruits raisin and plum, with a tart fresh cut green apple diacetyl character. Mild spicy Belgian yeast strain with some of the darker roasts providing a touch of cocoa poweder with those hops working exceptionally well definitely a nice American take on the style. Mouthfeel is velvet smooth in texture evenly carbonated making it a really mellow and enjoyable drinking experience nothing over burdens the palate. Drinkability is excellent, not only complex and challenging but also genuinely refreshing and tasty. I should have had another one but I switched gears to the IPAs, it's hard to pass up Two Hearted on tap.

From the growler I picked up yesterday, served in the Chimay chalice.

A - Pours a murky brown color with reddish/orange highlights and minimum opacity. Starts off with a fingerwidth of sandy colored foam, although retention is minimal.

S - Sweet, red raisins and plum wine. Pale malt with touch of herbal hoppiness.

T - The flavor delivers a nice balance of sweet and dry. A nice meaty raisin sweetness, like a mix of both red and white. Light malty sweetness combined with a mild citrus and grassy hop flavor.

M - Light bodied, but not watery. A nice soft carbonation zing even in the growler.

D - A more assertive raisin flavor than the Lost Abbey Judgement Day I had recently, and not nearly as thin in the body. To me, this delivers a bit of an American touch through the hop presence. Alcohol presence is not felt at all. An enjoyable beer.

"Dubbel Trubbel - the winning beer from this year's Sharp Edge Homebrew competition."

Got this in a growler at East End Brewing during Growler Hours.

Pours a dark reddish brown with a light thin off-white head. Smells of sweet raisins. This is a "belgian dubbel ale brewed with 20 lbs fo fresh organic raisins!" I don't like raisins but I love them in beer. Tastes very sweet and creamy. Definitely raisins. Theres a slight hop presence and a very heavy malt flavor. The mouthfeel is a little thin but somewhat creamy and a little gritty. The drinkability is amazing. I could drink this all night long but I forgot to ask the ABV and its not on their website. Overall this is an exceptional try at a dubbel for a homebrewer.
