A-Deep, ruby tinted, dark brown with a thin light tan head that left decent lace.

S-Very light roasted malt with the ever so subtle suggestion of sour cherries.

T-Surprisingly full flavoured with rich roasted malt, bit of coffee ending with suggestive tart cherry that increases with warming.

M-Medium-light with good lasting roasted flavour. A surprising amount of lingering flavour for such a light beer.

D-A quality session beer that hits all the marks for me. Low ABV with a boatload of flavour and a tasty zing from the cherry addition. Bravo Scott!

On tap at Capones.

Pours a clear dark reddish brown, almost ruby, very thin tan head forms and quickly settles to almost nothing, no real lacing on the glass, doesn't looks so hot in the head department. Smell is nice, toast, chocolate and roasted malts, light sour cherry, caramel, very malty, a bit milky, lots of fruit charcter, cherries are well done. Taste is similar, caramel and dry roast, chocolate, very nutty, some dark fruit, biscuits, very light cherry flavour, nice full flavour for such a low ABV, as this was listed as 3.5%. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation. I would have liked some more cherry in it, but otherwise pretty well made.

On tap at Capone's.

Poured a dark, dark brown color with an average to smaller sized off white head. Aromas of chocoalte, and some cherry. Tastes of chocolate, lighter cherries, and roasty. The cherries where on the subtle side. This one was fine, but there was nothing (either stout or cherry) that really stood out.

A - Sleek black color... Almost completely opaque though slight amounts of light sneak in at the top of the glass and present a slight ruby colored hue... Slight tan head quickly fades a way leaving an appealing lace...

S - Overall, the aroma is a bit on the faint side... Surprisingly there was no cherry scent to be detected... Instead there were scents of roasted malt and cocoa...

T - Roasted malt... Chocolate... A faint hint of cherry syrup... Not overpowering or complex, but still quite pleasant and enjoyable... Simple for a stout...

M - Medium bodied... Slightly thin... Smooth and lush... Even and consistent...

D - The drinkability for this one is off the charts... A respectable stout that only sports 3.5% ABV... Solid, but not overly impressive in any area... However, when combined with the low ABV it makes this one a sure fire favorite...

Thanks go to Kegatron for sharing this growler with me.

Poured an inky black with some red edges in the light. 1 finger of foamy mocha tan head has OK retention and leaves some nice lacing. Smell was a challenge to find at first, deep whiffs would indicate some roasted malt character and a touch of chocolate, but not much at all until it warmed up; then cherry syrup, more chocolate, and coffee notes were able to be picked up. Much easier to taste than smell at first, roasted malts blend with a nice sweet cherry flavor. Chocolate and bitter coffee notes in the finish. More cherry flavors come out as it warms up as well. Medium light in body with some poppy carbonation. Smooth and balanced with a good solid roastiness and sweetness of chocolate mixed with some sweet and tart cherry touches. Easy to drink, better when warming.

From a growler filled at the brewery. Into a pint glass.

Pours black (some garnet shines through towards the bottom) with 2 fingers of soft mocha colored head. Nice creamy flareup when swirled, leaving a bit latticework of sticky lacing behind. The aroma is surprisingly subdued at first. Finally, room temp and some aggressive swirling get a release of prevalent cherry tartness and underlying chocolate roast. It was actually pretty nice, it just took some work to get there.

The taste is thankfully much more assertive with a nice smooth mix of lightly tart fresh cherries, roasted malts, and chocolate sweetness. This achieves a really nice balance as it warms, finishing lightly tart and bitter on the lips. The mouthfeel is lighter medium bodied with an overall smooth feel that's got a bit of a prickly carbonation to it.

Beyond my issues with the aroma opening up, this was solid. Especially the balance, which treated the palette to an even mix of the cherry and Stout flavors. That and an easygoing silky body (and probably lower ABV) helped make this a welcome addition to the East End Session Ale lineup.
