Session Ale #20: Out Of The Woods

Growler brought back to Atlanta for me by Pghlee. Thanks Lee! Shared with some of the usual suspects at the Brick Store Pub. Poured a very hazy yellow with limited head but great lacing. Pretty nice for a growler. Smells light and grainy with some subdued earthy hops. Subtle, but this a quite low abv beer and it works. I'm reminded a bit of Anchor's Small Beer, but this has quite a bit more aroma and flavor, albeit of a similar kind. There are a lot more hops than in a small beer however, and in that way this reminds me a bit of Portsmouth's Weenie Rocket. Smooth and satisfying. So nice to see a nice flavorful low abv beer being produced. Very nice for what it is- which is not necessarily a pale ale. Whatever, I'll drink it and not get hung up on style.

A - pours a cloudy orange with a big light white head

S - nice hop presence in the aroma, but nothing too overwhelming

T - a toasted malt backbone with with a decent lemon hop taste

M/D - Medium bodied and decent carbonation, a nice tasty brew that i enjoyed drinking. A nicely rounded brew that could be enjoyed by plenty.

Very solid across the board. Just had this awhile back at the brewery. I wasn't blown away by anything from this one and was kinda expecting too.

I don't think you will see it in a bar anytime soon as it is almost too "normal" and doesn't really fit into any style of beer that well.

Pours a fluorescent hazy yellow with a small bubbly white head that faded pretty quickly to a collar and left no lacing.

The aroma is pretty mild for an APA with some hops up front but lots toasted grains and oak mixed in as well. There was some light fruit present in the nose in the form of apples.

The taste had a faint lemony hop kick up front before giving way to a lighter malt backbone that had a toasty character that could be attributable in part to the oak.

The mouthfeel was on the lighter side and slightly watery with low carbonation.

This is certainly a drinkable session ale but there really was nothing that stands out in this one. A bigger hop profile might have suited this one better and I have to imagine that this would be much better straight out of the tap.

Another solid session beer from Scott at east end. Murky yellow/orange pour with a nice oak and hops aroma, which lends an unusual combination to the mix. The taste is similar to the nose and not offputtingly high amounts of oak. Medium in body and carbonation. Very drinkable.

Pours a cloudy light amber orange with a fluffy, soapy white head that dissipated to a thick ring around the glass. The aroma is some pine and fresh cut wood with some light malt. The taste is about the same. The new oak and hops are fighting for the front and there is a slight light malt in the back. Slightly dry finish. As with all East End growlers, there is a fresh beer taste that I have never even had from a draft in a bar. The mouthfeel is not thin at all considering its an APA. There is a lot of body to this beer. The drinkability is amazing and I will have to acquire as to what the ABV is when I go down next.

Overall, this is another solid session ale from Scott and the crew at East End Brewing Co. If he keeps putting out these great brews he will have a customer for life.
