Brewed for Barrel & Flow Fest 2021
A Collaboration between East End Brewing Co. and Black Frog Brewery. Artwork by Jamal Young (@jy.originals)
Inspired by the sweeter stouts of the Caribbean, Caribbean Amphibian is a bottom fermented beer, with a rich, clean malt character. A milk sugar addition further contributes to the full body and mouthfeel for this beer, letting the roasted malt character really shine!

16oz can from Tavour. Dark Brown pour, small, thin brown head. Aroma is lightly roasted malts with some sweetness. Taste is Smooth chocolate, more light roasty grains, and milk sweetness. Rich, slick, luscious.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a one finger khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, vanilla and milk chocolate. Flavor is dark toasted malt, coffee, bakers chocolate and light vanilla; toasty finish with coffee and mild char. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A rather roasty milk stout; this has the vanilla/lactose flavor of the style, but with a quite nice coffee and semi-sweet chocolate component. This is distinctively different, a bit drier with more toasted malt and coffee than other mild stouts I've had, and I'm very pleased with the results. I'm also impressed with the flavor density for a 6% stout, it tastes like a much bigger one. If this was made locally it would become my go-to milk stout. The brewery's description of "letting the roasted malt character really shine" is spot-on. I like it a lot.

2021 version.
Pours dark brown with an average head that fades quickly. Aroma is roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is chocolate, a dark chocolate, more roasted malt profile amidst a familiar milk stout background. There is a bitterness, though it fades quickly like the head. Taste is clean and straightforward. I find the sweetness subdued and any milk sugars similarly in the background. There is a similarity to coffee stouts.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a deep brown color with a one finger head of tan colored foam. The head fades rather quickly, leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is big of a milk chocolate, with a decent showing of roasted malt. Along with these smells comes a good deal of vanilla and caramel as well as some notes of toffee and coffee. With a little bit of toast and char a very dark and inviting aroma is produced overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweet milk chocolate and roasted malt flavor that has notes of toffee and caramel as well as some brown sugar and molasses. All the sugary flavors mixed with a milk chocolate produce a rather sweet flavor, which gets even more intense as the taste advances. While sweet, the flavors are nicely balanced by the roasty and toasty flavors, which maintain strong throughout the taste. Toward the end, a creaminess mixed with a bit of vanilla and coffee develop, brining a bit of a latte like character to the brew. With just a touch of nut bitterness developing at the end, one is left with a roasty and sweet taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is thick and creamy with a carbonation level that is low. For the milk stout style the feel is good and makes for a more rich dessert-like feel.
Overall – A rather fun dessert style brew with a more approachable abv and a sweet, but non-cloying taste. A fun one to give a try to.

Appearance: The liquid pours the color of a Tootsie Roll and is capped by a one finger tan head that flattens out; decent retention with squiggles/spots of lace
Smell: Milk chocolate with a balancing roasted coffee element
Taste: The sweeter milk chocolate aspect merges quickly with an underlying roast tone; the combination of the two is perfectly balanced
Mouthfeel: Medium body and creamy, with moderate carbonation
Overall: As someone who is not a fan of overly sweet stouts, I wasn't sure whether this would be my cup of tea; the balance here is impressive and I found myself a big fan of this brew
Thanks, adrock314, for the opportunity

16oz can into a pint glass. 2021 Barrel & Flow release.
Looks pretty good in the glass. Black body shows a copper aura when held up to the light. Decent tan head does shrink quickly, not much lacing.
Somewhat roasty aroma with a little coffee and cocoa.
On tasting, smooth, a little sweet, some faint spice now and then. Good balance between the sweetness and roast.
Mouth pretty close to full, finish roasty on a bed of sweetness.
Overall, solid across the board beer. Went well with tonight's Indian food.
