Unknown vintage; drank on draft 11/10/22 @ the Hopleaf.
Cloudy orange/yellow appearance.
Small off-white head; decent lace.
Campfire smoke, lemon & faint bacon notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Smoky bacon flavor up front; mild wheat & faint lemon flavors.
The nose was balanced, but smoke dominated the flavor. Just OK.

what a crazy beer this is, a blend of their classic saison with a heavy rauchbier. the result is odd, and im not sure what the ratio of the blend is, but i have to imagine its hard to blend this smoked beer in gracefully, and they have found a way to pretty much do it. smells a little like bandaids from the smoke and the saison yeast strain, thats a weird combination for sure, but it tastes better than it smells, with more of a woody than an iodine flavor from the smoke, and not so heavy that you cant still appreciate the delicate nature of the base saison, which is one of my favorites out there. cool to have it still feel so light and bubbly too, its a neat contrast with the normal weight and density of rauch types. notes of tobacco and leather in here, the smoked aspect i think trumps some of the more subtle floral and even hoppy notes in the saison, but the the fusion of elements is cool. not sure i need more than one of these, but its a neat concept to even experiment with. on tap at back country pizza in boulder, where else would you find a beer this weird (and rare) on tap?!

Poured a golden body with one-finger head and lace ring around glass. The aroma has bits of funk and yeast with some smoke that overpowers rest of aroma. Beer has a smoky taste but this isn't a smoke beer so it's not meaty but just more of a hot, dry smokiness. You get hints of funk and fruit esters and other saison characteristics for nice balance and interesting beer but the smoke is dominant and not as flavorful as a rauchbier; not a bad beer at all and worth trying but just didn't hit the spot for me.
